I've watched the first 5 episodes so far and I'm satisfied. Some color banding as is standard on DC animated releases is noticeable but overall the picture looks quite clean and sharp. Certainly the best I've ever seen of this show. I never watched the DVD versions to compare but the picture is a noticeable upgrade over Cartoon Network HD broadcasts. I would have preferred a 3 disc set with a 5.1 soundtrack and some extras. Being barebones is probably the biggest disappointment about the set but it provides all 26 episodes at the best quality they will probably ever be at a reasonable price so I say easily recommended if your a fan of DC

Imo - this was far more than just a cartoon - this was a show. I'm very sad that this is going to be it for the green guy. Bring it back for season 2, or a direct to video feature would be a great treat for fans too.

They were clearly building to other things... like Sinestro, for instance... This was a really well done show, and the CGI animation actually worked in its favor I think. It's a shame we will not get to see what happens next.

I think this fell by the wayside after Warner decided to distance themselves from the disappointing Green Lantern film.

Which is a shame... the GL film wasn't great, but it wasn't as horrible as some have made it out to be... meanwhile, this animated series was great.

They should have built it rather than running the whole thing into the ditch.

Then again... they seem to be running all of their animated series into the ditch lately and not wanting to air them or develop them for long.

this is only partially correct... it actually has little to do with the film. The reason this show (and the recently cancelled Beware The Batman) was cancelled was because of poor toy/merchandise sales. The toy's weren't selling up to expectations so the decision was made to abandon the properties and move on to something else. This same idea also applied to Young Justice.

The Green Lantern show actually tested very well with boys and girls, however market research people were unable to look past their own idiocy and instead interpreted what was being said in the market research viewings as confusion and made the producers change parts of the show. Bruce Timm shared a lot of inside info this past year about the show, but here's one direct quote...

Quote:
Bruce Timm, like many of us, was disappointed with Cartoon Network’s decision to not pick-up Green Lantern the Animated Series for second season since he said it was one the best things he’s ever worked on, and considering his career, that’s saying something. Anyway, I asked if it really came to down to the lack of merchandising sales, as Bleeding Cool had previously reported regarding Young Justice. He said yes. Since the Ryan Reynolds’ film, retailers were stuck with film merchandise that just wasn’t selling. This lead to those retailers being very reluctant, if not downright refusing, to any carry merchandise from the Animated Series. Therefore, a lack of sales on that front lead to a lack revenue for an admittedly expensive CG Series.

I think it's mainly Cartoon Network's fault. They are given almost complete autonomy by Warner Bros. and will quickly axe any DC series that isn't an immediate hit in ratings and toy sales. Their executives have shown they don't really care for developing properties and almost would rather move into programming other than animated fare. It's cable network syndrome and mission creep that has made it a poor landing spot for new DC properties.

Don't take everything you read on Bleeding Cool as gospel. The toy line failed because the theatrical movie was a complete bomb, it made the brand temporarily toxic in the marketplace. The cartoon could have been an undisputed masterpiece, it was never going to sell toys.

I don't really buy the toy-line excuse anyway... because they canceled Young Justice but renewed Teen Titans Go! which essentially had the exact same characters... so if those toys weren't selling, it makes no sense to have a different version of the same characters toys also not selling.

I also don't remember even seeing any Batman toys for the new Batman show that they made, then canceled.

I get they want merchandise tie-ins... but the merchandise will never sell if they don't keep a show on the air for more than a season. Kids who want those toys want them because they keep seeing the characters all the time... kill the show, the toys have no reason to exist.

But the other way around... killing the show because toys don't sell even if the show itself sells... that seems screwy.

You don't have to agree with me, or Bleeding cool... multiple sites reported that as it came from Bruce Timm himself. That was just the first quote I found.

In the case of Young Justice/Teen Titans. The Cartoon network executives prefer goofy humor over the more serious stuff, but more so then that, Teen Titans was/is cheaper to produce than any of the other canceled shows.

For anyone interested, the price for Green Lantern the Animated series has dropped to $19.49. That is the lowest price to date. It's possible that it will drop further as we near black Friday, but with these WAC releases the prices don't seem to go down very often.

The Warner Archive releases will never get blown out on Amazon, if anyone was wondering. The cheapest I've ever seen them are when Deepdiscount runs a coupon of some kind.

It took a while to get going but I loved how it ended... it's a shame it never got a chance to continue on as the 2nd season undoubtedly would have been superior to the first.

How do people rate this, Beware the Batman, and Young Justice in relation to one another (or the DCAU)? I'm a DCAU faithful so I love Justice League et al, but could never get into these for some reason.

Big fan of the Bruce Timm universe. It just getting better to the end with Justice League Unlimited. I would rank the 3 newer series:

Young Justice - 9/10 - Slow start with the first few episodes but very entertaining watch when it gets going.

Green Lantern - 8/10 - A fun series. The main 4 just had a lot of great chemistry with each other.

Beware the Batman - 5/10 - It was a chore to watch the series. The CGI didn't work as well as it did with GL.

Me too. My brother bought this for me for Christmas and I binged the entire thing already. I LOVED it. So sad there's only one season.

It's a great series, it'd be nice if they'd do a DTV movie connected to this or something. I think this one just gets overlooked because of how beloved YJ is (Nothing against YJ as I love the series too)
