I just finished watching Rollerball, and I really enjoyed it. The rollerball game sequences were brilliantly filmed, and the movie's theme has even more relevance today than it probably did back then. Maud Adams (The Man with the Golden Gun, Octopussy) has a pivotal role that I appreciated.

I'm glad that I made it under the wire to buy this particular film.

I really feel it was way ahead of its time, kind of even has a `mistmatched buddy/cop' feel to it! But it moves at a cracking pace, looks amazing and is just great fun! One of my favourite movies and a Charles Bronson highlight for me!
One of The Criterion Collection's hint drawings for the 2014 year featured a red sun, so a bunch of us are hoping that the hint is, indeed, for Red Sun.

That would be good, I haven't seen Red Sun in years, I have always enjoyed that film.

Another interesting Bronson movie on Blu-ray (from Olive) is the somewhat off-beat and intriguing little western SHOWDOWN AT BOOT HILL (1958). It's not what you'd call a great classic by any means (and sort of feels like a glorified TV drama of the era) but Bronson's good and it's well-worth watching. It's also got some nice B&W CinemaScope cinematography.

I wonder if there are any plans to release Lord Jim as it is due to come out in France shortly. Knowing Sony it should look quite nice.

I guess this has been discussed, right?

from TT's facebook:

We have already said that we are re-licensing a few of our sold out titles.
if that's the case, i would buy Fright Night and Mysterious Island.

That is probably true. Basically, other than collector's I think very few people really know about TT since their distribution portals are not large, just a few web sites and no retail. Add to that SSIS has been released in many different releases in DVD. I don't think many non collectors are willing to upgrade this form DVD at the TT price when you can get the DVD for under $10.

Although TT is getting more well known, I still don't think it is very well known outside the collector community. So I think you are correct that the main people purchasing these are on this site and other collector sites.

I'd be surprised if any less than 70% of TT,s sales came from this site alone

Same here, as far as collector sites that I have seen, this site seems to have the most activity discussing TT that I have seen.

Not the way the users on this site only buy a blu-ray when it's practically given away.

What brings you to the conclusion that the users on this site "only buy a blu-ray when it's practically given away" ?

It was a generalization based on the numerous posts I've read and threads I've participated in.

Well I think all collector's are interested in deals and will post, and this site attracts collectors and non collectors.

But collectors do know that deals are few and far between with some distributors like TT, Criterion, Olive and others. So with a lot of those the titles are going to cost. But when a title is being distributed by one of the more "standard" distributors collectors know the prices will drop. So unless that collector wants it now, then yes even the collector will wait for the price to drop.

So I think your generalization is somewhat valid. But not completely given the broad user base. Certainly the people willing to pay premium prices for catalog titles is a niche market within the user base. But there are 54735+ members of this site. And the number 54735 is just the number that post their Blu-ray collections (https://www.blu-ray.com/community/?a...topcollections) . I would assume there are many that do not so that number is larger.

I think any number or percentage of how many TT titles are purchased by people on this sit would just be pure speculation on anyone's part (including my opinion)

TT's reply on re-licencing:
Quote:
Well, this sounds like very exciting "breaking news" - but hardly. We have stated several times over the past year that we were first "considering" relicensing some titles, and then we were "in the process" of relicensing titles, and now that we "have" relicensed some of our sold out titles.

Here's a tease -- the first four of these will be out in 2015 -- most likely one each in Jan, March, August, and October -- however, we will leave you to speculate on which might be coming when.

Happy guessing!

I think Fright Night and Mysterious Island are pretty much a given. Any other guesses which sold out ones will return?

Journey to the Center of the Earth is another one I'd bet.

All Sony in 2015 would make sense, and I'd bet three will be these. Steel Magnolias, even though it took awhile to sell out, is still a known title with continued sales potential, and it is from Sony. It just seems like Sony would be the studio most likely to relicense without much fuss, and Steel Magnolias is my guess for the fourth title.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is a wild card, because Fox might want that one back, but who knows. There is also The Egyptian, which would make sense for Fox to let that one continue to be licensed out, and TT could release it at a lower price point. There is also Enemy Mine, which had its original release in Oct 2012, and TMMITFM (which took two years to sell out). However, these are all Fox, and I have a feeling the relicensed titles are going to be from Sony.

Some of these may relicense at less than 3000 units, and possibly for a shorter period of time.

The sad thing is that Rapture won't make the cut, even if it sells out between now and December. TT's best release, in my opinion.
