I'd like to see a version of The Time Machine that sticks closer to the book than the films. The 60s version is a fun adventure flick, but it lacks the sense of darkness and the political satire of the novel. The less said of the 2002 film, the better. The Eloi are not humans as in the films, they are devolved humanoid creatures which resemble a more fragile, less ugly Gollum. In the novel the time traveller also makes a journey to the end of the world, which is visually spectacular as described in the novel, but which never made it into the films.

I'd also like to see a remake of the British sci-fi film Quatermass and the Pit. It's full of great ideas, but the budget wasn't quite there to do it justice.

Default Remakes Of Interest

For me if "Man Of Steel" and "The Lone Ranger" are example of the latest remakes, I'd rather see nothing remade. Especially add "Star Trek Into Darkness" in the mix. Even though I like these franchises I keep on wondering why it's neccessary to rehash the original story lines. Surely there is enough material out there to have new and fresh stories.

That being said, I would like to see Midway remade. The Battle of the Coral Sea which preceeded Midway deserves a movie unto itself. Both of these should be excellant remakes with good story lines and plenty of drama not to mention todays special effect.

If there were none, then you would never have been able to enjoy The Wizard of Oz, The Maltese Falcon, A Fistful of Dollars, Blow Out, The Thing, Father of the Bride, The Bourne Identity, True Grit or Vanilla Sky. Some would argue that those were all senseless remakes, but others would say those are pretty solid remakes - some even classics - in your collection and wish list.

Some 50's Sci-Fi films with interesting ideas that I would love to see tackled with today's effects:

The Monolith Monsters
Kronus
The Incredible Shrinking Man

I'll go with this. Love Halle Berry and own the BD of this film (yes, you read that correctly, I do in fact have it in my collection), but I agree, this one probably could have been done a great deal better.

Why in the world would that be considered a remake of the Halle Berry Catwoman?

I know this will never happen because of how tarnished Catwoman is because of Halle Berry and Pitof. But I think if the right people were involved it could turn out very well. Anne Hathaway starring and Christopher Nolan directing. Have even more of Catwoman being the female Neil McCaully from Heat. Her planning a major heist while committing other small / major crimes to further her personal agenda. Have a male detective hot on her tracks with a very strong love / hate relationship and professional / personal relationship. Make the viewers keep guessing at who is playing who and whether Catwoman and her love interest will end up together. Have Catwoman successfully commit this major heist that nets her millions of dollars. The detective knows she did it but waits to confront her before reporting his personal knowledge of the case to his superiors. He confronts Catwoman and asks if she loves him. She says she does and then she shoots him in the heart with a pistol. He dies holding his heart. She picks up her phone...

"Harley its Selena. The job is done. Tell your boyfriend I'm ready for some real work."

ROLE CREDITS

Think Catwoman meets Fast Five with Jake Gyllenhall's character from Prisoners as the detective.

It would be another stand alone Catwoman film without Batman and unless they decided to name it The Dark ***** [insert vulgar term for vagina] it would probably be called Catwoman, so on name basis alone its a remake.

Evil Dead prequel. The story of the Archeologist who discovers The Necronomican & what happens when he deciphers the passages in the book.

Army Of Darkness remake that's a little bit darker & more serious.

Return Of The Living Dead, Mostly for the updated Zombie make-up & effects.

I am a rather big Stephen King fan. I would love to see some of the earlier Stephen King movies redone.
Children of the Corn,
Cujo,
Pet Semetary,
Firestarter,
Christine,
and The Running Man,
among others.

Hmmmmm...

A new Arthur film similar in tone to Excalibur could be really, really cool.

And to be honest, Excalibur felt a little dated when I watched it last year. I always remembered it as really stylish and edgy but some of that stuff just came off as kind of cheesy and silly this most recent time around. So I guess I would be in the 'it can be improved on' camp.

That said, this might be a time where the people who say 'well, just make your own Arthur movie, you don't have to remake Excalibur' might be right. Then again, they might not be. A remake might work.

Very interesting idea.

I've always felt that the Highlander films (including the original) could do with another go. Terrific premise that wasn't as well realised as it should have been, imo.

Guillermo Del Toro's Highlander could be very interesting provided he didn't get studio interference. Themes of mortality and ageing are right up Del Toro's ally and those are the themes most commonly depicted in the Highlander series. The fantasy elements play right into his hands, too.

As for who I would want for Connor McCload? James McAvoy comes to mind, but only because he's Scottish. An actual Scot playing a Scot in a Highlander film would be a nice change!

Another remake/reboot or whatever they call it that would be welcome would be a semi serious Mortal Kombat.

I've a soft spot for Paul A Anderson's cheesy 90's adaptation, but I think that those who are fans of the game would agree that the mythology deserves a proper retelling. The geezer who did the Legacy tv show has got the right idea, but this needs a visionary director. Somebody who's got a keen eye for production design. Imagine Outworld as interpreted by a Ridley Scott or a James Cameron? I'd prefer Scott over Cameron these days though as Cameron will just film go all 3D on it. If it wasn't for his 3D hard on, then Cameron would be my 1st Choice as he is better at spectacle than Scott is.

YES! But not the Wachowskis even though I loved Cloud Atlas. How about Gore Verbinski or David Fincher.

The Wonderful Wizard of OZ where it isn't a musical and where it sticks damn close to the tone of the book. Return to OZ got it right when it comes to accurate adaptations.

DUNE. Extremely high budget, 4 hours or more long and a damn perfect adaptation. CATWOMAN with Michelle Pfeiffer and produced by Tim Burton as originally intended.

Oh, I'm sure they can, at least in terms of production value. Boorman's film is a bit on the gaudy side. I know it's supposed to be a drab and gray film, and I wouldn't ask them to change that, but they could easily improve on the costume work, the setting and locales, the camera work, editing, SFX, etc.

If it's anything like The Vikings show, or Game of Thrones, or something, it could be smashing.

Christine
I almost listed Christine. I think John Carpenter's film is pretty awesome as is. In the past, I thought up of some different things they could do, but at the very least, they could make it a closer adaptation to the book.
