Anyone else see the 3D version of the teaser trailer for the new disaster movie Into the Storm? I saw it in front of Godzilla a while back and thought it looked fairly impressive. There's a new, proper trailer out now which gets more into the story, and it seems like at least some of the movie is shot found-footage style. I don't know if it's actually set up that way or if it was just a (stupid) creative decision for the cinematography. I haven't seen the new trailer in 3D, only online, so I'm not even sure if those parts will actually be in 3D. Here's hoping if they are it doesn't get TOO shaky - if it's got Cloverfield cameras and 3D combined I imagine a lot of people will toss their cookies.
It's about storm chasers and a huge storm system bigger than anyone's ever seen, so it kind of looks like a modern version of Twister. I love disaster movies so I'll definitely be checking it out. Here's the new trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57Vkp...ature=youtu.be |

Also, for the record; director Steven Quale's previous film was Final Destination 5, which had some very nice 3D, and he was also a second-unit director and visual effects supervisor on Avatar. |

That seems to be how a lot of people are reacting... I don't see it, tbh. It looks fine to me. The shading effects on the funnels seem a bit off here and there, but for the most part, they look like fairly convincing tornadoes. Certainly nowhere NEAR SyFy levels of badness. I've almost never seen truly seamless CGI and this doesn't really look below average to my eyes... maybe it's just that this sort of dense, airswept particle effect is really hard to render. From The Last Airbender's airbending to big gusts of swirling CGI dust in action-fantasies it always seems at least slightly off. The tornado in Man of Steel, IMO, looked worse than the ones in this trailer. It seems like this particular technology hasn't really come very far since 1996!
That said, the POSTERS are terrible with really badly-Photoshopped twisters with this exaggerated, ugly swirl effect. Last edited by UFAlien; 06-29-2014 at 02:49 AM. |

So am I (and the editor who posted the Blu-ray.com article mentioning 3D) just crazy then? I could've SWORN I saw that trailer in 3D, but I suppose the mind does play tricks...
EDIT: Found the interview in question: http://collider.com/steven-quale-int...orm-interview/ Okay, party's over, my mind is shot and I'm an idiot, everyone can go home now ;-) Last edited by UFAlien; 07-01-2014 at 03:32 AM. |

Just to add to this, I believe the reason it's not in 3D is because (and the trailers didn't really make this clear) it's technically a found footage movie, with most of it being seen through camcorders etc. To my knowledge we've never had a 3D found footage movie (although i'd be up for it). I still think this should have been in 3D but i can understand the makers being hesitant if most of the move is done from the perspective of wobbly camcorders etc. The movie does consistently break the found footage rule though with lots of wide shots that aren't from a characters camcorder, so it could have worked. Really enjoyed the movie.

This was in 3D in the theatres. Is it not being released in 3D Blu-ray anywhere? I have not seen a 3D copy anywhere yet.
