$80?!? So I'll be paying $50 more for extras and booklets and new artwork? That makes no sense at all.

They have managed to license the theatrical version from WB!? O_o. Very impressive.

Simply incredible news. Not only finding the original film elements, but somehow co-operating with Warner on this release. That's some achievement.

I want the limited set, but for the price...I'm not sure. That's pretty close to what I'm paying for full TV series releases/full franchise sets.

That amazed me more than anything. Is it only them and Criterion that have managed to license a title from WB? That's extremely impressive.

Just noticed something - while the product listing says "you can experience Clive Barker’s original director’s cut of Nightbreed with over 40 minutes of new footage", the post on Facebook states "With nearly an hour of lost footage meticulously restored". I wonder which one is correct?

$80 for the Limited Edition?? That's outrageous! The Halloween Limited Edition Collection is only $120 and that has 10 movies!

SF via Facebook:

Our best answer here - We are not taking "cues" from Twilight Time. The only one we were able to sub-license the theatrical version from Warner Bros was to agree to a set number of units sold and that it would be included in a set and not as a standalone. Also, the cost of re-transferring all of the lost footage was extremely expensive to do.

Would like to order from Shout Factory directly so I can get one of the first 1000, but sadly they don't ship outside the US. Hopefully won't be long before the Amazon order goes up.

Not in my book. 'Over forty' indicates somewhere between 40-45 minutes; I'd consider 'nearly an hour' somewhere nearer 55.

I'm not complaining either way, I'm just interested to know what it is exactly.

I think what SHOUT does it usually good work. I know they are NOT the best at transfers compression wise. However I think the price is a bit much. Yes they did work for this release but maybe it would have been cheaper to have WB release the theatrical cut themselves lol

I will order it if amazon has it at a discount. From what I've read the Limited Edition isn't exclusive to Shouts site. Suprised SHOUT isn't doing a sale price at all. (currently)

We are for sure paying for the licensing on this release. I know I will buy it but I'm not jumping up and down yet lol

The fact that the Limited Edition is including the theatrical cut is enough for me to get that version! I'm looking forward to the new director's cut, but the theatrical cut is the one I've always known. It'll be great to have both versions on blu-ray.

Anybody who is annoyed at the price for the limited edition needs to step back and acknowledge the mammoth amount of work that has gone into getting the movie released in the way it is going to be.
A few years back we might well have settled for a lazy dvd upscale of Nightbreed just so this honestly rather unloved and forgotten about title was easier to get hold of.
Then once the guys behind Occupy Midian helped locate the workprints and spent an INSANE amount of time reconstructing the film with Clive, as well as redubbing the soundtrack and getting Doug Bradley back into the studio to rerecord his dialogue.
Thus began the long road of touring cult film festivals all over the world, listening to feedback and tweaking the film further until the Cabal Cut was in a saleable state.
When Scream Factory announced they were releasing the title we all expected that we would get the admittedly terribly jarring Cabal Cut featuring all those cut shots from a variety of VHS based sources.
Instead SF have gone above and beyond to not only seek out the actual lost film elements which pretty much everybody - including Clive himself - thought simply no longer existed.
Then for them to have worked a deal with WB - whom rarely if ever license their titles to third parties - to release the theatrical cut of the film on Blu Ray as well is just incredible proof of how seriously SF have taken this release.
I cannot wait to see the quality of the finished film and I'm sure the extra's will deliver too. This is no quick lazy release of a library title, but a cult film with a respectively small fanbase getting the kind of treatment usually reserved for "jewel in the crown" type film's such as The Wizard of Oz and Lawrence of Arabia. So yes the Limited Edition is a lot of money, but then I at least have no qualms whatsoever in handing over that sort of money if the work and effort put into the release deserves it.
