Except in Empire Strikes Back, Yoda already explained that through the Force, one could have visions of the past and the future.

YODA
Through the Force, things you will see. Other places. The future... the past. Old friends long gone.

And Anakin had a "flash forward" vision in Revenge of the Sith.

But there were no flash forward scenes in Empire. That script was written by the book proper.

Revenge of the Sith was terrible all around so I don't even count that.

The precedent has already been set, though...a Jedi can have visions of the past and the future. And we saw one of those visions in Sith. So...flashbacks are not inconsistent with the series (depending on how they're used), regardless of film school storytelling doctrine.

Who knows? Maybe Leia is really good at force visions regarding the past...would help smooth out that awkward scene regarding her mother in Return of the Jedi, wouldn't it...

I know, although that wasn't a flashback or a vision of the future. Vader tortured Han for the specific purpose of drawing Luke to him. It's the same thing as the Tusken Raiders torturing Anakin's mother in Clones. Not flashbacks -- just people close to a Jedi in pain, in real time, and the Jedi can sense it (which explains why Yoda senses Anakin's pain, also).

Yoda senses Anakins Pain real time as he just murdered hundreds of people when his mother died. Luke sensed the Pain of Han and Leia and Yoda peered into the future so yes I guess in some regards that is correct. I dont really remember episode II as i found the movie to be horrible save the final battle scene.

When the holy hell did The Daily Mail become a reputable news source? It's a freakin' gossip rag, but people react as if Disney & Lucasfilm had issued a press release and Walter Cronkite had confirmed it.

On the topic of flashbacks:

There's no reason why there can't be holograms of memories gone by, like when Obi-Wan observed the younglings being killed.

More to the point, they could even take a plot from the EU, in which there were anti-rebel propaganda films made. She could play an actress playing young Leia!

How crazy would that be?

Dunno if this has been posted but Temuera Morrison is back as Boba Fett. I did a search of the thread and couldn't find anything.

Doesn't surprise me. I figured that'd be the first spin-off film.

I hope the writing on these new films is better. But I think a monkey with a typewriter could do better than Lucas.
To me, the dumbest thing in the prequels took place in Episode 1.

After Aanakin had been tested by the Jedi Council, Qui Gon asks the Council "he is to be trained then?" Mace Windu responds in absolute terms "No, he will not be trained. He is too old." Qui Gon proceeds to throw a hissy fit and say "he IS the chosen one, you must see it." Then Yoda suddenly says "Young Skywalker's fate will be decided later."

I was sitting there thinking "but you just SAID in definite, no uncertain terms 'no he will not be trained!'" Gee Jedi, way to stick to your convictions! It's like in the blink of an eye they went from "No absolutely not!" To "Well, we'll decide later on." The whole thing made NO SENSE to me.

I saw it as "we'll think about what to do with him since he won't be trained" i.e. will he be sent back home or will he go and do something on Coruscant?

Ahhh, I guess that does make sense. And since Anakin single-handedly took out the Trade Federation control ship, I guess the Council reconsidered it's decision (all except for Yoda).

Only Sith deal in absolutes.
To Jedi absolute is a relative term.

Or what tigertron said.

I hope it isn't set between Sith and Empire. I want to hear Star Wars theme, then see the crawl and then the camera to pan down from space to Tattoine where we see the Sarlac burp Boba Fett up and then see him fly away.
