Yeah, I kind of wish I had gotten in that first 1,000, but I waited too long : P Oh, well. I guess it doesn't make too much of a difference.

I've had a handful of friends give it a whirl at the various screenings and such and they've unanimously agreed that no, it isn't. It's more of a curiosity than anything.

I'll wait for the Amazon pre-order and pick up a copy. I'm intrigued by the film elements being found and restored.

But this is a new director's cut, different from the "Cabal cut" that people showed in theaters... so who knows really?

Shout Factory, is trying to jump on the bandwagon with Twilight Time, by selling limited releases at high prices.

I pre-ordered the limited edition version, but I have to say this. SF better get their act together with regards to movie transfers. They are still way behind Synapse and Arrow in terms of quality control.

Are you sure? I figured they were just calling it "The Director's Cut" because only the hardcore fans would know what "Cabal Cut" means...this news story from fearnet seems to treat them interchangeably:

Word got out at this year's Comic-Con that their efforts have finally been rewarded, and now it's official: Shout! Factory and Morgan Creek Productions have just inked a deal to bring Barker's extended director's cut – The “Cabal Cut” – to DVD and Blu-ray in 2014.
Likewise, this new story from July 1 2014 says:
Quote:
Nearly a year ago, Scream Factory made the announcement at Comic-Con that they would be restoring and releasing "The Cabal Cut" of Clive Barker's Nightbreed.

Likewise, this new story from July 1 2014 says:
Quote:
"We're going to call it the Director's Cut because...there are still murmurs that [the Cabal Cut] is overly long, there's some repetitive footage, it still needs a proper sound mix, there are a lot of flaws with it, you know, I mean it's essentially a fan-made workprint. We did it in-house and it's by no means a professional thing. And so when Shout Factory start the restoration and give it a proper mix and digitize it and restore it and Clive goes in and watches it and gives his notes, you know, and suggests the trims and puts everything in order and we have the ultimate thing, that's going to be the Director's Cut because Clive's had his hands in it, you know, it's an official, professional release and we want people to know that it is something different and it is something that's just going to be Clive's ultimate vision..."
From Clive's official site.

I suggest you read their Facebook page. Screw it, I'll take the excerpt from someone suggesting they were like TT in their pricing and set units. This was Scream's response:

"Our best answer here: We are not taking "cues" from Twilight Time. The only way we were able to sub-license the theatrical version from Warner Bros was to agree to a set number of units sold and that it would be included in a set and not as a standalone. Also, the cost of re-transferring all of the lost footage was extremely expensive to do."

So you see, they had to set a number of units in addition to paying for a large restoration cost. Please, before you accuse them of being like TT (whom I can't stand- I've sold 1 of the 2 titles I've purchased from them), learn the facts.

When did Twilight Time undergo a big restoration job, do a licensing deal with a studio that rarely licenses titles out, and create a full disc of extras?

Which should I watch first - the theatrical cut or the director's cut?

I know you were just trying to be funny, but I hope you realize how much shipping cost have increased the last year or so to ship to Canada. That cost isn't that far off.

it is a lot, plus 7% exchange, but I agree with Drinkinstein I'm not taking any chances.

Is this serious, cuz mine says the same thing? I was guessing "taken" meant they had marked it in their system as "taken" when the confirmation emails went out. So those who have an email with an order number, are "taken" even though that word doesn't appear. I'm gonna be cancelling-a-plenty if I'm not in the top 1K after ordering well before the cut off, then I'm gonna do some dumb shit I do when I get angry. Can't imagine we'd have order numbers if our orders weren't "taken" though.

Never... and they charge $29.95 instead of $80 (and I have no problem with TT or Shout's pricing).

Being "like Twilight Time" means making a licensing deal with a studio to release something that would otherwise not get released.

So, while I'm sure they aren't "taking cues" from TT, their reasons for the high pricing are no different from TTs. They just had additional restrictions (could not release as a standalone title).

I wish Shout would confirm this to each individual of the first 1k.

Otherwise I may cancel depending on the Amazon price, I dont care about a smaller number.
