The Leopard is terrific. I still need to upgrade to the Blu, though.

Others on Blu-ray (or announced as forthcoming):

Elmer Gantry
From Here to Eternity
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
1900
The Professionals
Run Silent, Run Deep
The Scalphunters
Separate Tables
The Swimmer
The Train
Twilight's Last Gleaming
The Unforgiven
Vera Cruz
The Young Savages
Zulu Dawn

According to the database listing here, the MGM Blu-ray of Carrie has the original mono track as an option.

It went OOP because Criterion lost the rights to it. It ended up in StudioCanal's catalog, and Lionsgate has the exclusive North American rights to that catalog (except for titles that Criterion still has existing contracts for, and other random exceptions). The Lionsgate "StudioCanal Collection" Blu-ray release is still in print.

No one knows how many copies Criterion pressed before it went OOP. Criterion has never (to my knowledge) released press-run figures for any of their releases, LD, DVD, or BD.

Just saw Naked last night. Highly recommend if you like dark comedy. I don't fully get the purpose of the movie as a whole but I do know, David Thewlis should of been a oscar nominee with his role he played the hell out of it! Anti-hero, sarcastic, nut job, runs from his problems... A great blind buy during the B&N sale!

What is everyone's thoughts on Che?

I've only seen a few minutes of it on IFC a long time ago.

Isn't it two halves with each part showing a different side of Che Guevara?

Forget the hideous cover art though, the movie itself is stunning in terms of picture and sound quality. Does anyone else like this movie?
I agree. It was a beautiful story that, after the first 30 minutes, goes absolutely nowhere.

But one aspect of this film absolutely broke my heart and I don't think I could watch it again.
[Show spoiler]The entire subplot about the grandmother just made me dislike Akiko so much. I think it particularly affected me because it reminded me of my mother talking to me in Japanese.
I, too, loved the scene
[Show spoiler]where she is listening to the voice messages from her grandmother. choreographed along with the neon lit Tokyo night.. it was heartbreaking

For me, this film falls into the category of "don't bother looking deeper because there is nothing there." I am baffled at how a film could start so wonderfully (I mean, I LOVED the first 30 minutes) and fall off so terribly to the point where I'd give it a thumbs down.

about the blu stickers...

I peel them off of the cellophane wrapper (they come off really easily) and carefully apply them to the case. I've bought maybe 2 or 3 CC titles in 'like new' condition, so they didn't have them (obviously) and 2 or 3 new ones that I ordered online didn't come with one either. Bummer.

I don't know... they look slick. Considering the number of people here who have said that they either keep them or apply them, I don't think that it's too "crazy."

I watched Cronos last. I liked it but not as much as Devils Back Bone or Pan's L. What do you guys think the ending meant?

No. Part 1 is about Cuba, part 2 is about Bolivia. I think it's an extremely well-made film, even if it's not quite as exciting as I expected. I also think it's reasonably unbiased, which is essential for such a controversial figure.

That being said, I think Carlos is a far better movie in the same vein. That movie is phenomenal.

I agree that it'd be more than welcome. But, my response was about the people that think everything Criterion posts pictures of must be getting a release when that is simply ridiculous. I've only been following Criterion for a little over a year and a half and even I recognize this.

Would I love to see it? Absolutely. Do I see them releasing it? Not at all. Would I eat my words if they did? You betcha.

Just watched Faces for the first time.
I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. A truly unique and harrowing film filled with so many unforgettable moments and interactions.
Definitely don't regret buying the John Cassavetes set.

I find the stickers don't peel that easily from the cellophane, so I just cut around the sticker, and stick it in the case (DigiPack) or slip it under the plastic on the front cover of the case.

On the other hand, the "MGM 90th Anniversary" stickers that have come on some Twilight Time titles do peel easily, and I stick those to the front covers. I suppose I should try again with the Criterions.

take the cellophane off first. and use a hair dryer. if you can get the tiniest part up and off the cellophane, the rest should come off pretty easily!

Criterion is trying to acquire Pan's Labyrinth from Warner.

“You know we definitely have had that conversation with Criterion. They found a really good response to Devil’s Backbone and Cronos. It’s all in the hands of them being able to strike a deal with New Line and Warners for the film, but I would love nothing more than having that. That would complete the Spanish-language trilogy so far (laughs).”

Yes, I would love for Pan's Labyrinth to be included in the collection! It was my introduction to del Toro and it's right up there with The Devil's Backbone as my favorite.

Would be great to see this film, loved the adult fairy tales themes, and the focus on a child dealing with war.

Bautiful and tragic, not as good as Devils Backbone but its real close.

I am excited about his new 'small' black and white film :P hopefully will be be back to his roots and avoiding the cliches of the big hollywood films :P

Omg forgot about Crimson peak!
