Quite true.
When Christopher Nolan first started the ball rolling with The Dark Knight, he framed it with 1.44 in mind. He truly wanted to embrace the quality of 1570 IMAX with great impact.

Unfortunately, our studios sees it as another channel to artificially inflate ticket prices. Just like how you could convert 3D with 2K digital, go through the IMAX DMR process and then project it on a digital Liemax cinema. And jack the price up.

Even Dolby Atmos is dangerously close to being gimmicky with some films. Captain America - The Winter Soldier was one of the worst offenders of the format. The only time I felt the Atmos format was put to use was when the underground SHIELD bunker was being bombed and you could hear debris from the overhead speakers. Other than that, it sounds just like a 7.1 movie.
IMAX were DMR'ing movies (including Batman Begins) well before Nolan started up his 15/70 crusade. And I find him being championed as a leader of the format somewhat ironic, because while he did get the ball rolling for full-height IMAX acquisition in movies, he's always got the 2.35 extraction in mind so his 1.44 compositions are extremely safe and formulaic.

A lot of IMAX installs are 5.0, not 5.1...the speakers are all full range in those so they felt there was no need for a specific .1 channel.

And the first Transformers had full range mains plus a LFE channel.

Avengers looks like a big budget TV movie. ALL the other Marvel Universe films are 2.39, the majority of them in actual 'scope anamorphic format.

Avatar only played theatrically 1.78 in IMAX 3D. The other theaters got 2.39. For home video Cameron decided to keep that 1.78 ratio, but his decision was the exception and not the rule. He still protected for 2.39 and it plays quite well in that format.

That explains why when I compared Transformers - Age of Extinction between IMAX and Atmos, the bass was lacking by a mile.

But admittedly, the clarity in IMAX is very good.

James Cameron did the same for Titanic. He composed his shots for anamorphic scope and 4:3, for (back then) VHS TV Home Viewing. I doubt he had a flat ratio in mind back then, but I believe the recent 3D re-release in 16:9 worked quite well.

Cameron is one of the very few directors who shoots his movies with multiple aspect ratios in mind.

People have been doing that since the 50's, mate. Standard Operating Procedure.

Not gonna happen. LFL already confirmed they are not doing an Ep 7 panel. Not only that but how are you gonna release a full trailer when principle photography isn't even finished?

At very least I'd expect maybe a promo shot of the main players or something along those lines but who knows?

First trailer of any kind will be attached to Avengers 2. Roughly 7 months before release, both Disney now.

I have no proof of this, just seems logical.

Umm, Skywalker family and Tattooine? No connection there? Id think that we'll be there just for a few minutes though I don't mind more than that.

I realize there is a connection as the stinking planet was in every one of the movies except Empire, but I really see no reason to revisit it either unless it's a very brief flashback of Boba escaping the Sarlaac.

To me it seems too much like "revisiting old haunts" to try and remind audiences of the connection between the new movie to the original films.

Of course, it could be they do something really cool with it but I think it's just being used because it's easy to film and iconic.

And revisionist writing like a flashback to Boba escaping wouldnt be blatant fan service?
No, Boba died. Maul too. People need to accept it. We've seen enough stupid things like that in the non-canon EU, we don't need it in the real films.

Lucasfilm teasers have usually not shown up until about 6 months before release. If Disney is the one making the decision it could change, but I dont anticipate a teaser until spring, and a full trailer at end of summer.
