Even on the spec sheet for the 11.2 top end model, it says nothing about 4:4:4 12-bit 4K/60Hz support. Hell, it doesn't even mention HDMI 2.0, it just keeps mentioning "latest HDMI 4K/60Hz" over and over. Sounds like they're fudging it to me...

Now, excuse me as it’s almost time for the man (Messi) vs the machine (the German World Cup team).

Trouble is, the HDCP guidelines are just that: guidelines. And Pioneer et al don't give a shit.

Come on Germany!!!

Then what's the capability for HDMI 2.0b? 12bit 4:2:2?

They need a new revision or they will be be left in the dust compared to Display Link 3.0 or Thunder Bolt 2!
HDMI 2.0 can do 12-bit 4:2:2 though for consumer video that should be more than sufficient. Realistically the best that 4K Blu-ray will support would be 12-bit 4:2:0 and that is only if the BDA decides to support the Dolby HDR system.

It's still a bit of a mess.
UHDTV is currently half baked and I have read that none of the European broadcasters have any interest in UHDTV Phase 1 and that they are planning to wait for UHDTV Phase 2. The only reason that the DVB even released UHDTV Phase 1 was because of pressure from the CE companies. Add on the trouble with HDCP 2.2 and the UHDTV transition is going to be very messy. I think a lot of people are going to be angry when their UHDTVs turn out to be incompatible with UHDTV products/services released 2 or 3 years from now.

Dude, you will not get 60fps 4K content at anything higher than 8-bit 4:2:0 with the 2.0b spec. It's that simple.

But the reason why some manufacturers are sticking with the 2.0b (aka tweaked 1.4) spec for now is because it will support higher bit depth and colour sampling at up to 30fps for 4K, and seeing as movies are still shot at 24fps (with literally two exceptions), there's no need to panic just yet, not least because 4K 60p broadcasts of any description are seemingly a long way off for the Americans.

But Richard is right, the whole Phase 1/Phase 2 thing is turning out to be a massive cluster****.

I bloody well can, especially when they're playing the cheating, fouling Argies who deserved precisely **** all. The best team won, and it's been a pretty good tournament overall (but Messi as player of the tournament? Seriously?). It's not the best ever because most of the knockout games were shite, but it's been soooooo much better than South Africa. Now it's gone, and I'm missing it already.

I would be happy/satisfied if new Blu-Ray movies adopt 4k 12bit-4:2:2 at 30fps and for games 12-bit 4:2:0 or 10-bit-4:4:4 at 60fps!

Is there life after the World Cup for Peter?
Most certainly - http://www.ticketmaster.com/chevrole...004C82106993AF

P.S.
Messi looked tired in the Final (how many goals did he score this past season in the Spanish League?) but, I admire him so much more than ‘the Hand of God’ nutter from Argentina. I wish more pro athletes would emulate his behavior.

I’m happy it wasn’t decided by a PK shootout. Good final all around.

Too bad for them (or clueless consumers) they don't create content.

Content creators rule. And (unlike the Blu-ray/HD-DVD thing), I think there will be complete solidarity among studios for HDCP 2.2.

SMPTE membership already know about this coming Tuesday’s Educational Webcast as they get automated email reminders but, heads-up for those blogger and reporter types who can carry $49. on their expense accounts –
https://www.smpte.org/webcasts/quad-hd-to-uhdtv

Longtime readers of this thread should be well aware of Hans by now (as he’s given many UHD presentations, e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...u+#post8921618

As for Howard, he’s a big proponent of HDR.

Not at all. The combination of Hz/color space/bit depth HDMI 2.0 can be very confusing...and some would say misleading to many people.

I was offering to do you a favor.

Alright, I'll take a look...

What is it with the HDMI associations slow updates compared to Display Link and Apple?
