All this Kubrick talk simply reminds me to try and get through that 4 Film Favorites set I got for Christmas. I haven't watched one of them yet. In fact, the only film of his I have seen is Full Metal Jacket, and that was only at the beginning of the month.

I wonder if Criterion's new PLAYTIME will suffer the same problem that plagues the recent restoration. I've posted about it here a week ago after reading it on David Bordwell's site. So hold on to your OoP Criterion discs!

This is a promotional gimmick for the announcement of The Vanishing, I'm sure. We cannot find the announcements, but we will be obsessing about what happened to them at any cost.

The organizers of the Venice Film Festival, the oldest international film festival in the world, have revealed the complete line-up of restored film that will be screened in the Classics section of the prestigious event. Amongst them are acclaimed Italian director Marco Bellocchio's La Cina e vicina (China Is Near), Jack Clayton's The Innocents, Elio Petri's Todo modo, Krzysztof Kieślowski's No End, and Robert Bresson's Mouchette.

Outstanding line-up this year. Bellocchio, Kieslowski, Petri, Ferreri... Fantastic

Many of these, if not all, should come out on Blu-ray. A few are already in the pipeline

I'm so happy about the Kino release of Desperately Seeking Susan in October that any Criterion announcements for that month are secondary.
