5k copies essentially sold out within a couple of weeks, beating most of TT's sellouts, and people think they can't sell another 5k? Uh, ok...

And how many of those 5k were extra copies for people intending to scalp?

Happy for those who missed out that will pick this up. On the other hand, I'm not sure the price is as justified now. Add me to those that don't like it. Not as limited now.

If Shout was surprised at how fast their 'limited edition' sold out, I bet they're just as surprised right now, as they are inundated with phone calls and e-mails to its store canceling orders left and right.

But it's reasonable to assume that quite a few of those copies were purchased by scalpers and others attracted strictly/primarily by the limited numbers available. Would Scream have sold 5,000 copies in two weeks (half of them at $80 a pop) if there hadn't been only 5,000 copies? In any case, time will tell, but I would imagine sales of the final 2,000 or so will be quite sluggish, especially after many of the scalpers/Ebayers cancel their ore-orders, assuming, and not without reason, that their profit will shrink dramatically with the availability no longer an issue, at least in the immediate future.

I think this release will struggle to hit 8k anytime soon. As I said earlier, they should've bumped it up to 7k or 8k before even considering 10k. That amount is just simply too much for something they're claiming is "Limited Edition", and all the scalpers will likely abandon ship within the next couple of days, leaving them with a ton of extra inventory.

So is the theory that if we cancel our orders now on this so-called "Limited" Edition, that would make its availability even higher, making it appear even less "limited" and in effect causing the price to drop, allowing everyone to purchase it later at a much lower and more reasonable price?

I do not understand how people are mad/irked/pissed/upset/annoyed about the new batch announced. If owning a limited edition was important to you and $80 was justifiable for such an item, why not just cancel your order if that price is no longer justifiable for you? What exactly are you losing?

The only way I would have any symapthy for those looking for limited items was if Scream released the 5000, then a week later, announces a new batch of 5000. That would be a decent interpretation of deception.

But right now, everyone has the ability to cancel their order and save their no longer well spent money.

And I also don't understand people who want the first 5k numbered, but the second 5k unnumbered. wtf? If you're holding a copy that says #5001, that means it's the second batch. What would be the difference if it says #5001 or unnumbered? It means the same thing rofl

I doubt the price will drop much. Shout Factory likely needs the higher price point to recoup whatever costs were incurred for this release. Essentially, doubling the number of limited edition copies will likely scare off collectors and scalpers, in turn leaving them with a ton of extra product on hand for potentially a long time. I'd love to be wrong on this matter, of course.

If you're referring to me, I'm not siding with scalpers, I'm siding with Shout Factory. I'd hate for them to be stuck on a mountain of super-costly inventory as a result of this move.

Well... I for one am happy that Shout renegotiated with WB to be able to expand the LE to 10K Copies.

Especially when so many people were complaining they were unable to get the set.

Or that people who hadn't found out about the set yet were basically screwed in getting one.

Especially since the limited nature made it almost certain that few outside the US could get one.

I am not canceling my preorder and in fact I am more than likely willing to support Shout Factory in the future.

Who are you referring to, then? I haven't seen any collector siding with scalpers. I have seen people that are concerned after plunking 80 bucks down for something that was sold to them as being limited, and priced that way because of its limited nature, being told after the fact that it is no longer limited. That's not a legitimate concern?

Very pleased that Scream increased the run from 5,000 to 10,000. Anything that makes it easier for people who purchase movies to watch and enjoy to get a copy at a reasonable price is a good thing. Anything that discourages scalpers and speculators from purchasing is a good thing as well. With that said I believe Scream should drop the SRP for the LE following the increase of copies. The reasoning they gave for the high price was it was necessary to cover the cost that went into the release. Now that there are twice as many copies available they shouldn't have to charge as much to turn a profit.

These extra copies aren't free. They likely had to re-negotiate with the studio, and it's also going to cost more to make more. The price will remain the same, I'd imagine.

How many of those who ordered from the first 5,000 will end up being sent a copy with a number greater than 5,000?

I'm not a scalper, and I'm hardly a collector (at least not one who collects for the sake of collecting), but I do buy things because I get enjoyment out of it, so when they say that a movie I want comes with extras, but is limited and I have to pay so much for it because it's so limited, then it just seems pretty deceiving when the production count doubles on it, after selling me on the fact that it was supposed to be limited. I actually don't really care about how limited it was --- I just wanted the movie and all the extras --- but I can see how some people see it as a sneaky tactic to get fast sales, and I do think the price should drop, considering it was high to begin with and the limit number is not what was originally advertised.
