Actually, Amazon's pre-order price guarantee is that you'll get the lowest price they offer it for between the time you pre-order and the end of the day on release day, not by the time it ships.

I've been in a situation before (can't remember if it was a GoT season set or not) where the price was lowered a few days after shipment and I emailed them to adjust and refund the difference and they did.

If the price is lowered before the end of release day (which can be a few days after shipment depending on when your order is shipped), they'll automatically refund the difference within 48 hours following release day. There's no need to contact them about it in that situation since that's the policy and it will be done automatically. If the price is lowered after release day, it's outside of the pre-order guarantee, so it won't be automatically adjusted. People sometimes have success getting a refund for the difference even then if the price drop is within a few days of the release date, but it's not guaranteed.

Figured I'd bump the correct thread. Here's HBO's press release with box art and release date. Also confirms the set will not have DVD copies.

http://winteriscoming.net/2014/07/15...d-february-17/

I'm worried because the picture shows only 4 discs. Maybe it's a mistake?

You're not wrong. The discs show:

Disc 1: Episodes 1 & 2
Disc 2: Episodes 3 & 4
Disc 3: Episodes 5 & 6
Disc 4: Episodes 7 - 10

What doesn't make sense to me is why they're stuffing 4 episodes on Disc 4 (which will also have bonus features). Why not just add a third episode to two of the discs instead?

It's surprising considering that they've had discs devoted to a single episode on the other season sets. I don't know why they're doing this.

Maybe most extras will be on other discs this time? It's very weird, especially since the first 3
discs only have 2 episodes each. Maybe this is just a work in progress picture and the actual set will be different.

Hopefully if it is 4 discs the PQ/AQ don't take a hit. Not sure why they would change it up like that? I doubt they'll have less special features than usual. I'm glad they're excluding the DVDs though

4 episodes on a single disc...the disc that usually houses the majority of the special features...either they've found a new codec that works miracles or this set probably won't be getting a 5.0 video rating. This is a strange choice for HBO. They are almost always generous with their shows. Giving them plenty of discs to ensure the best quality possible.

I rather like the cover art now, I wasn't too crazy about the crow with the white background but I like it in black. Also, not too crazy about them excluding the DVDs, but I can't really blame them I suppose. This set will sell like crazy regardless of the business decisions they make.

Hmm, that last disc looks way too crammed if you ask me. That's at least 4hrs of footage before any extras. The only way it would work is if pretty much all the extras are on the previous discs and only audio commentaries and the history stuff is on the last disc.

Think around 4 hrs on 1 50gb disc is around 20mbps on average which is do-able (some episodes on previous seasons have around that bitrate and still look fine).

Art looks great overall. The only thing I'd change is to remove Margaery and put Oberyn there. He's a big part of the season and imo should be on the packaging somewhere.

Only 4 disc hubs so it's going to be thinner than the other seasons!

(Not a massive big deal but it's going to stick out, especially if for some reason they choose to go back to 5 discs for the next seasons).

Yeah, that does seem odd. But I am glad they aren't doing that "one episode on one disc" thing - my that was awfully annoying.

The list of extras looked pretty much the usual, nothing unique except the roundtable with "Actors who Died in S4". As far as I can tell looking at it, there are two 30-minute featurettes, and I can't imagine them putting the previously mentioned extra anywhere but the last disc, making it even longer - hmmm. Very interesting.

That said, I just can't see HBO screwing this up with video quality. HBO does stellar releases, I can't imagine they are going to cut corners on this set, just as the show becomes the most watched HBO show of all time.

Normally I would wholeheartedly agree, on just about any other release - in this case, no pun intended, I'm bummed. Because of the popularity of the show, those DVDs may be absolutely useless to me, but they have certainly made the rounds of my friends/co-workers who have really appreciated them.

Looks like it will be in the same format as season six of True Blood. Ten episodes spread across four blu-ray discs, no DVDs, thinner box.

This site gives that set a 4.5/5 for picture quality FWIW. Not sure how the True Blood episodes are distributed across the discs.

Those included DVDs made pretty good coasters for my drinks.

I have it and it's two to three episodes per disc. Not at all the same as having two episodes on three discs and cramming the last 4 plus extras on one disc.

Makes no sense and I'm hoping this is just a work in progress pic. The set won't come out till February so it could be different.

Not only that but Ep9 will definitely need a good encode with a decent bitrate because of how dark it is throughout. Otherwise there will be banding and digital artifacts all over.

Still don't understand this train of thought. If you don't use them, you can sell them. And for those of us that do use them, it's more content.

Exactly. I'm sure the price will be the same, even with less content. People can (and will) say what they want, but DVD copies are still not useless for a lot of us.

Sucks no dvds.
I have always resold those for $20 or so making my blu ray set almost free.
