Misery. I don't think that will happen. That's it for denials. But. What the hell is Monkey's Shrine? |

Nope, it was based on a novel called Monkey Shines about a paraplegic with a helper monkey that goes psycho. I remember reading the novel back when I was a kiddie, but I never saw the movie. I don't think it's generally considered one of Romero's best!

That is quite different from the film. The Stephen King mention is because the op listed this film in the Stephen King collection notes a few posts up. The George Romero Version is pretty much as different as can be. Edit: Monkey Shines (sometimes called Monkey Shines: An Experiment in Fear) is an American horror film originally released in 1988. Written and directed by George A. Romero, the film is based on a novel with the same title authored by Michael Stewart. |

By the way, there's a movie that's practically the same plot as that story. I'm not sure what the history was on it, it ended up in the anthology "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders" so I'm not sure when the Monkey segment was originally filmed. It seems like it should have been lawsuit-worthy since as far as i know there was no credit to Stephen King on it whatsoever. Ah, here's the wiki page on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Devil%27s_Gift The full-length version seems to be less close to the Stephen King story, the one in the anthology movie is nearly identical. |

I'm still not sure what the Miramax film for a box set could be. I'm beginning to think it will be for a Shout release, not Scream. The only Scream possibilities would be Tales from the Crypt: Rituals or Wes Craven's Cursed.
Rituals is barely a Tales from the Crypt film, and is pretty shoddy and cheaply made. I don't see Scream going after it. Also, the other two titles are Universal, and if they were doing a Tales box set, why wouldn't they include the original film? As for Cursed to be included in a Wes Craven box set, I just don't see them doing a Wes Craven set when they never did a Carpenter set. Plus Cursed again isn't a very good film, so unless they could release a cut with the original actors there isn't much excitement for it. Plus there aren't too many Craven flicks they could get if they aren't doing a deal with Universal this year. MGM has a film called Night Visions that I've never even heard of, and never had a DVD release, so that is one possibility, but it doesn't leave much else. There's Deadly Friend, but as much as I know Warner doesn't give a damn about that film, I still don't seem them giving it up so easily, unless there was another crazy stipulation like only 5000 copies or some other nonsense. So it pains me to say it, but I believe the announced box set will be something from Shout. Maybe a Martial Arts or Jackie Chan Collection, although I get the feeling they are done with those films after all the complaints from their previous releases. I really have no clue what the film could be!? Last edited by spawningblue; 07-17-2014 at 05:44 PM. |

Okay so Stephen King and Candyman Collection are out. If the title they are getting from Miramax is a Shout title (Which as mentioned above is most likely), there probably won't even be another Scream collection this year since they are already releasing the Halloween set and the second Vincent Price Collection.
My predictions / hopefuls. If there release any of these, I'll be a happy camper! Other Escape from New York (I know they already turned this down but who knows what kind of last minute deal they may throw at us.) I thought the whole point of this Nightbreed release was to bring fans the Director's cut that's supposedly so much better than the shitty theatrical version (I never watched myself, but the whole demand for the Director's cut release says it all). Now some people are not satisfied and are paying extra cash to have the theatrical as well? I don't understand.

Just wait for the inevitable Warner Archives release of the theatrical if that's your problem. The third disc is an issue, but it is something to deal with.

I'm asking a question based on what I read from many fans of this movie. There's a big demand for a Director's cut because, according to some fans the theatrical version is shitty and doesn't make justice to what Clive Barker originally intended to do. Where did I said the theatrical version is bad because other people say so? The fact there's so many fans unhappy with the released version and asking for a Director's cut says a lot, makes you wonder, but I never said I agree with them. Pay a little more attention to what you're reading. Last edited by JackForrester; 07-17-2014 at 08:15 PM. |
