My old XFX was noisy as sin and so far every other stock cooler i have experienced has been. This is where your noise could be coming from but do as prerich mentioned and open the case for a closer listen. I can recommend this http://www.zerotherm.net/eng/product/GX810.asp but it is quite large and will take over a slot next to the GPU.
