Default Planet of the Vampires (1965)

Planet of the Vampires Blu-ray

Quote:
A Close Encounter Of The Undead Kind

Get sucked into a "chilling" (Film Daily) black hole of cosmic creepiness when an evil alien race zeroes in on a crew of unsuspecting astronauts, turning them into zonked-out zombies! Packed with space-age suspense and extraterrestrial terror, this "eerily photographed" (Leonard Maltin) and "electrifying" (Vampire Movies) thriller drips with an "intoxicating, feverish atmosphere of dread" (Village Voice)!

A band of space travelers has just intercepted a distress call from a distant world! Is it a desperate cry for help... or something far more sinister? After landing on the shadowy planet, the crew is attacked by a horde of disembodied aliens with a diabolical plan: to conquer the universe by controlling the crew's minds and stealing their souls-proving that even in outer space, possession is 9/10 of the law!
IMDB - 6.3 ( 2,704 users )

Rotten Tomatoes - 70% ( 10 reviews counted )

Another title I suggested to Kino, is one of my most anticipated releases for BluRay, Mario Bava's classic PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES! This will come out both BluRay and DVD! Tentative release date is scheduled at late October, and we are working on extras with Tim Lucas as we post this. More info to follow.

Nice I only owned the old MGM non anamorphic DVD of this film so this BLU I can only imagine will look so much better in HD and 16:9. I can't wait to see the colors pop on this film.

Should be a nice Scorpion Releasing title from the looks of it. I love Tim Lucas Extras Esp Commentary Track! PLEASE.

Awesome. I've never seen this one, but I really haven't been disappointed by one of his films yet.

I'm so in for this one....

random question. does Kino ever have sales like scream/shout and Olive does? I usually can get those for about $12.99 if I look hard enough (I've just never had much interest in Kino titles till recently now that JW and Bronson titles are being added + this of course)

Dr Goldfoot & The Girl Bombs might change that opinion.

It's looks excellent in HD. Approximates the theatrical experience very well (saw both around the same time a few years back).

One of my all-time favorites. Can we assume this will be AIP cut only? In any case, happy to see Tim Lucas on board, a Bava commentary from him is almost a requirement!

Awesome news. I've been on a Bava kick recently and this and Kill Baby Kill were the two that I was the most interested in, but both only have OOP dvds available on amazon for way too much. This will be the first Kino disc I buy!

One of my favourites by Bava. It's a visually stunning film and so inventive in what it does with a tiny budget. Alien is reputed to be influenced by it, especially in the discovery of a large alien skeleton and the recent The Last Days on Mars is almost a loose remake.

Also several plot elements and the design of the crew's space suits. Planet also influenced another Dan O'Bannon-scripted film, Return of the Living Dead.

I envy those in DC - I'd kill (baby kill?) to see a complete Bava filmography in 35mm!
