wow.....crazy seeing all the "rage".

but i guess i'll throw in my two cents. like many others, i couldn't care any less if i tried over how many copies of this are available. i bought it because i wanted it. i'm sucker for extended editons and extras so i bought the LE. if i didnt care about extras i would have gotten the regular one.

i've never gotten the impression that the price has anything to do with how limited or not this was. its a collector's edition that includes 2 discs that the regular does not (the theatrical and the 2nd bonus disc) and THAT is why they charge more. it really doesn't matter if its 5000 copies or a billion, you get 2 discs in there that you can't otherwise. yes the price Shout decided on is pretty crazy but no one is forced to get it and more so, no one is forced to get it from them. others were selling it much cheaper. and now with the added 5000 they'll likely have it again so everyone who wants it can hopefully manage to get a copy.

to those complaining about the price, it doesn't matter how many copies are available, that price would have been the same even if they had announced 10000 copies on day 1. but anyway in the end it truly does not matter at all. those who want it will get it, those who don't will not. those who already pre-ordered and are happy will keep the order up and those who are not will cancel. everyone wins and no one loses anything.

and those who pre-ordered from places that charge right away, i imagine they can just cancel and get refunded. but thats why i avoid Paypal and those sorta sites for pre-orders because sometimes its a hassle to get refunded.

of course i've probably just repeated many things many others have said but i felt like chiming in cuz i'm home and i'm bored. :P

It is literally called a "Limited Edition". The "Collector's Edition" is 22 bucks. If you haven't seen it suggested that the price was because of the limited nature of the product, then it's because you just didn't read the announcement. It is the very first thing that is mentioned, and it has been expanded upon in their further explanation as to why it is so expensive.

Anyway, it is what it is, and no amount of complaining is going to change it. Hopefully it turns out to be a release that is deserving of that premium price, as I have no doubts that it will.

Around and around it goes. I'll have to avoid this thread until it becomes informative again and actually discusses the merits of the release instead of this bickering about arbitrary print runs.

To sum it up simply, scalpers are pissed they can't leech off fans who missed out on a copy and charge an insanely inflated price. And collectors whom care only about the 'value' of the release in terms of supposed 'investment'. Their egos are upset they may not be the only kid on the block with this ultra super duper rare deluxe no one has it but me, neener neener neener edition.

It's really pathetic when you look at it sensibly. I'm glad I am just a fan of the movie and am buying it for the movie itself. Sure I bought it because it was 'limited' and was about to sell out thanks to the vultures hoarding copies. But I'm a fan none the less, so I took a chance to acquire a copy at a reasonable price(Amazons $55 is not a 'bad' price for this release in my opinion). And I'm going to enjoy viewing the new cut of the film and eventually the theatrical version(since I am a fan of the film as it was, despite the flaws).

So thanks Scream Factory! Ignore the spoiled brats. It's all noise for noise sake.

None of that is factual. I don't understand why this can't be discussed like adults. This childish chest-thumping is idiotic. Both sides of the debate have valid points. Deal with it.

The fact that they weren't Alphabetical or grouped by slipcover/no slipcover is causing mine to flair up.

I was lucky enough to pre-order 2 of the LE's from shout!'s website before it sold out from the first run ( wasn't fast enough to pre order from amazon), ( and I don't trust other sites even though they were cheaper). I was going to watch one and keep the other one sealed as I am a huge fan, but thought paying $80 was a bit steep for a 10,000 copy pre-order. I was ecstatic and gladly paid $160 for two copies when it was originally 5,000. Now that it has gone up to 10,000 copies, I don't feel so special anymore lol. I am thinking of either canceling one LE or both and just ordering the CE all while paying attention to see when amazon re-lists the pre-order for the LE.. ...any suggestions? thanks guys

If you don't care about the poster or the low number, then absolutely cancel at Shout and order from Amazon when it goes live again. It should be any time now. I wouldn't cancel until you secure the order at Amazon though. It's not going to be a problem, but I still wouldn't cancel just yet. With how they have handled this release who knows what may change and happen now.

Well before the 10000 was announced I cancelled at SF to order at Amazon. I mean really who is paying all that extra cash?

So people are actually complaining that everyone gets another shot at watching this? That you're not going to be one of the special select 5.000 who can? Now it's a massive TEN thousand! God forbid that it would ever be about the CONTENT! I'll try to not let the door hit me in the back on the way out.

You say you'll avoid this thread because round and round it goes with petty bickering, and then all you do is contribute to the round and round bickering and belittle everyone with a differing opinion. Yep, you're so far above everyone else here. not.

As a countermovement to the "Occupy Midian" one that lobbied to make this release happen, there is now a new movement called "The Berserker Collectors", which has set out to buy the additional 5000 copies and burn them in a sacrificial ceremony, after which they will all shout out their edition's number proudly one by one.

Probably run by the same guy trying to collect all of the VHS copies of "Speed".

There's also its evil twin, the "Occupy Midden" movement, where all the people who blind bought the limited edition - and inevitably come to find out they hate it - now bury their copies within a dunghill on some remote cow pasture. Because after all, there is no future sales value.
I heard something similar to this happened decades ago - something about millions of E.T. game cartridges and a remote landfill out in the New Mexico desert.

I'm in the middle of a major storage crisis. I just stack 'em as I can, homies. I'll get back into anal-sorting mode once I get into a house with more room. As it stands, I have piles of Blus in both bathrooms.
