I heard something similar to this happened decades ago - something about millions of E.T. game cartridges and a remote landfill out in the New Mexico desert.

Even if I hate the film I wouldn't sell it. I firmly believe (as I have since the beginning of the format) that this is it for physical film media for a long time if not forever. Taste's change, and sometimes second, third, fourth,or fifth viewings result in new experiences. I absolutely HATED Insidious when it came out... however after 2 more viewings and a bit of time, I can at least stand it. (I've used the analogy that Insidious is equivalent to polishing a turd. You can take away the stink, shine it up real nice, but at the end of the day it's still a turd).

Not all of us Blind Buyers bought it to re-sell it. I will admit that the time table for me to purchase it was drastically pushed forward by how quickly it sold, but I knew all along I was going to buy the CE or the LE eventually, so it made little difference as to when I locked in my order as once I decided I wanted the Theatrical cut, that made the decision easy.

For what it's worth I've also Blind bought a fair portion of Scream Factory's collection, along with the 2 Demon's Steel books, several Criterion's, etc. My philosophy has always been why waste the money on a rental when I can just purchase it and sell it if I absolutely hated it. 99% of what I buy however I buy to keep forever. You'd have to go back to the Playstation 2/xbox to find the last video game I traded/sold, and as far as Blu Rays go... I've only ever sold Underworld Evolution, The Die Hard Collection (Which I now somewhat regret), and doubles of movies I already own.

To sum it up simply, scalpers are pissed they can't leech off fans who missed out on a copy and charge an insanely inflated price. And collectors whom care only about the 'value' of the release in terms of supposed 'investment'. Their egos are upset they may not be the only kid on the block with this ultra super duper rare deluxe no one has it but me, neener neener neener edition.

It's really pathetic when you look at it sensibly. I'm glad I am just a fan of the movie and am buying it for the movie itself. Sure I bought it because it was 'limited' and was about to sell out thanks to the vultures hoarding copies. But I'm a fan none the less, so I took a chance to acquire a copy at a reasonable price(Amazons $55 is not a 'bad' price for this release in my opinion). And I'm going to enjoy viewing the new cut of the film and eventually the theatrical version(since I am a fan of the film as it was, despite the flaws).

So thanks Scream Factory! Ignore the spoiled brats. It's all noise for noise sake.
If this were Billy Madison, we would award you zero points for that.

I think we can all be thankful this isn't Billy Madison for myriad reasons.

I think I'm over the initial shock of the whole thing. I was a little miffed at first, but at the end of the day, I just want this thing to hit my mailbox. Hopefully it's not increased to 20k copies anytime in the near future. I can never stay mad at Scream Factory. I do still think it is a bit ridiculous to ridicule those with valid complaints, but I'll just chalk that up to some people sucking.

Wow.......just.........wow. There is no debating with these types of people. Thank you Scream Factory for turning simple film fans to complete drones who hang at and applaud your every decision with this catastrophic release!

I think the problem, like on a lot of internet forums or discussions, is seeing people purposely and sneakily dismissed with words such as "rage", "whine" and the like, when nothing of the sort is taking place (or at least, the proportion is not anywhere near as high). It's not really a fair way to debate things and is purposely used to ridicule or alter the tone; at least you put yours in quotation marks. Certainly, I think a lot of users against this increase have explained themselves very well, and a lot of the more spiteful or petty posts are coming from those that don't see an issue. Such is life.

Precisely.

And it generally says more about the person trying to dismiss everyone else as troublemakers or whiners - who supposedly don't care yet feel the need to belittle and hammer on and on about folks who do. They are so pleased and happy that instead of just being pleased and happy...they feel the need to sit around and be dismissive and be passive-aggressive and talk down to folks who may care about something.

I certainly don't see all this "rage" - I see folks who have discussed it and it's impact on their buying habits. Heck, I'm sure if they skimmed my post on the matter they'd categorize it as "whining" - when in fact, I outright said I'm glad it happened, it's saved me a bundle of money, and I feel foolish for jumping on the "LE" train, to begin with. But as I said, when folks want to act all superior under the guise of not being disgruntled, it reveals a lot more about their personalities in general than has anything to do with any specific release.

Exactly. The only people who have been name-calling and voicing derogatory comments about other users in this thread are the ones defending Shout's move to up the number. The other side who were unhappy to some degree with how Shout handled all of this have discussed things very maturely, backing up why they feel the way they do, and haven't lowered themselves to calling the Shout defenders names and so forth. Many of the Shout defenders, on the other hand, are the ones being intolerant and refusing to accept that others may feel differently, and getting very angry that some people don't agree with them so they lash out and call them spoiled brats and whiners. They don't seem to realize that this is a forum and there will ALWAYS be differing opinions. But it goes for every controversial thread on here - it almost always turns into a battle, and sometimes it gets very ugly, as it did in this thread two nights ago (and by morning, 3 pages of ridiculously inflammatory and threatening posts were deleted). All I can say is if you can't handle your temper over opinions on a Blu-ray forum, and it makes you want to start yelling at people and calling them names, it may be a good idea to step away from the computer and go for a walk.

Whilst yes something doesn't feel right about the added stock, I can't put my finger on it. I think it's more that they said they could only do 5000 because of Warner, then Warner lets them do more.

I don't feel like the price should be dropped, but that's because I'm sticking with the what I feel is reasonable, amazon price.

The best way to handle these situations, is in my opinion, to make a small change to the next 5000. Maybe only number the first 5000, or have the next 5000 miss one trailer or radio spot or something tiny. Then there's a difference to please the collectors, and that way the next 5000 or however more can get the product they want. That would also, god forbid, please any scalpels who wanted to sell some from the original 5000.

Not to take a side in this extra-uninteresting debate (though some will inevitably interpret it that way) but one would be wise not to conflate "calling out those who are being extra-whiny tittybabeez about the whole less-limited-than-previously-thought vile of jesus christ's urine edition" with "defending" the additional copies/underhanded larger print run. They're separate concepts and not mutually inclusive.

I pretty much totally agree with everything you said. I too firmly believe this will be the last physical incarnation for home video. I often hear comments from friends and relatives in regard to my Blu-ray purchasing, but I sort of always joke that we're in the midst of a "media apocalypse" of sorts. I've seen printed books and bookstores pretty well dry up to varying degrees - particularly the sort of writings that I enjoy. Music selection on CD has greatly dwindled for sure. Other people can stock their bunker with canned goods, I'll stick with Blu-rays. I don't want to see the day, that the only thing left for me to watch is another exploitative reality show or trite sitcom. I just don't see myself joining the "streaming revolution". I'm a bit too old-fashioned for that.

This is a good thread though. People have gotten mad but I think it's been respectful for the most part.

I don't see it being any different; some people may indeed be "raging" (sigh), and some may be "defending" (sigh sigh). Still, it doesn't change the dismissive or misrepresenting attitude by numerous members. Indeed, I'd question the whole "calling out" thing which is being written in your post as fact; there's not much to call out if the majority are being mature and simply not liking the way the limited edition plan has turned out, and stating as such.

Anyway, yes, uninteresting now.

I find it amazing that there is still one guy on Ebay right now claiming there is only going to be 5,000 copies still and there is 49 bids on it and it is up to $157.50 right now. Wow.

I'd like to know his contingency plan should the number he receives somehow exceed 5,000. I hope he ordered directly from Shout!, otherwise I would be sweating if I was him. But I guess, as is usual, maximum profit can only be achieved with maximum risk.

These early ebay preorders are actually a bit silly, because according to ebay rules a preorder can only be valid if the item ships within 30 days. So essentially, anyone budding on these can pull out when the item doesn't arrive in August or September.

Since no one has seen the cabal cut yet, I'm especially grateful for the extra 5000 of the special edition. I've never seen the film and am leaning towards the standard edition. But I would really like to hear more about the director cut vs the theatrical cut before deciding whether it's worth the extra cash to get the theatrical cut as well. The extra run means folks like me don't miss out, and will be able to get more info before making the plunge.
