OK. I don't believe anyone is saying that they find Luke's hand. They find Luke's light saber. Sure the hand can be seen severed and floating in space (to us audience so we can wonder if Luke is dead throughout), but only the light saber survives re-entry. At least this would be more plausible. And why would some of you think that this hand is from Cloud City? Seriously??? Seriously?

I find it far too creepy if they are opening the new film with a severed hand floating in space. Especially if Lucasfilm wants this film to appeal to kids. Knowing Abrams, it'll be dark and creepy.

This whole thing sounds BS to me. I doubt it's real.

Taken directly from Faraci's story: "That hand falls onto a desert planet, where it is discovered by characters who will be our heroes."

Preach it. When you get right down to it, the fridge thing is no more ridiculous than the U-boat thing.

@simonpegg: It's not a Z95, it's an X-Wing, and what's beautiful is that appears to be an old McQuarrie model.
From Simon Pegg.

It's no more dark and creepy than things that have come before...You know, like watching Anakin burn to death on Mustafar.

Another spoiler from http://badassdigest.com/ concerning John Boyega's character:

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
Boyega plays a storm trooper. A storm trooper who basically deserts and teams up with Daisy Ridley's character.

Boyega as storm trooper is the single most confirmed piece of news I've ever written about in terms of sheer volume of independent sources who agree.

But that could just be poor writing on Feraci's part.

As his numerous followup comments and tweets make clear, the hand survives its encounter with the planet's atmosphere.

Is it the bio mechanical hand? Or Luke's only flesh hand? It makes little sense for the hand to survive re-entry. And that's not needed to propel the story.

Sure it does. The wing might look completely fixed in that situation because it's a model, but you can see the divide between the two engines (as chip has just pointed out) and the actual splitting would be done in VFX. I think that the Pegg is right in this case, McQuarrie's drawings also have that split-engine look, and they also have the rounder fuselage at the ass-end. Aren't they using McQuarrie's stuff as reference on Rebels, too?

But with that paint job, it almost looks like something from Clone Wars. In any case, me likey. LOVED seeing the little RC droid trundle past JJ too. It's a cheap gag (one that's been revisited in Ep III, not to mention the Clone Wars) but I loved it all the same.

My bad, I missed it on the first viewing, but there are 2 sets of cannons on the wing. I thought there was only one cannon on each wing.

Dude, just google McQuarrie's x-wing design. There's two cannons on each wing (one for each 'split').
