Do you think Irvin Kershner did that on Empire?

Default Star Wars: Episode VII

This film like the prequels will further destroy the franchise. It is its density.

Too many McFlys have opinions about it already.

I can see a ship under attack that explodes and the debris rains down on Tatooine, and among that debris that plummets is a shot of a hand holding a lightsabre...but the opening shot isn't going to be a simple hand clutching a lightsabre tumbling through space. That's more JAWS 3 than it is Star Wars.

Well, if it was Vader's hand, it would have to be Vader's lightsaber, not Luke's. Of course, then there'd be no reason to look for Luke, if that's really the plot.

Someone above thought that Luke's hand should be used to create an army of "bad" Luke clones. At first I thought that could be interesting, until I decided it would come across like an old Danny Kaye comedy. Vader clones could be slightly more interesting, since you can't see his face. But why would you clone someone who's mostly machine? (There is one reason: to create beings with a high midichlorian count).

I still think this idea of the hand and lightsaber is all a joke. I bet someone saw a draft piece of artwork that shows a hand held vertically holding an active lightsaber (I can easily imagine such a poster in my head) and like the game of "telephone", that evolved into this rumor that Luke's cut-off hand and lightsaber travels through space and is found 30 years later. The movie's producers are probably having a good laugh about this, if they're paying attention at all.
Luke having a bad clone (Luuke) has already been done in the EU, I doubt that they would retread. Ive always thought that it would be interesting the see an Anakin clone though. Palpatine had numerous clones and would move his "couciousness" into a clone when his body was destroyed. To think that Vader could have at least on clone to try to move his "conciouness" into kinda makes sense. He would be human again instead of a machine. Yes I know its based on EU but whatever lol.

cloning technology. Kamino. Now, who is to say those Kaminoians did not clone Obi-Wan? Or, Palps cloned Anakin but never collected the clone?

Oh the possibilities would be boundless.

Imagine 60 year old Luke fighting a young Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader...

Palpatine coming back as a young version of himself?

HEAVEN FORBID.... a Jar Jar Binks clone? "Mesa back!"

[Show spoiler]Wasn't Anakin sort of an artificial person to begin with? Who's to say that they can't make more Anakins?

No problem, we'll just use all the Jar Jar clones for Stormtrooper target practice. We'll get the satisfaction of seeing him die over and over again, and maybe the troopers will learn to shoot straight for a change.

Agreed. I hope they are imaginative and give us a Darth Maul like character and stay away from clones and old men with black capes (looking at you Dooku). Also no General Grevious garbage either please.

What if the Emperor split his soul into seven parts and hid them in everyday objects? Luke along with Han and Leia have to track down the items and destroy them.

I don't care what type of villian we get, just don't kill them off after 3 seconds of screen time!

LMAO!

So, you're saying when the Emperor lightning attacked Luke, he imprinted himself?

Luke was the only Jedi that lived.

I wouldn't be opposed to an old man with a black cape if the character was done well. That's basically what Palpatine is and he's like the most sinister villain of them all. The problem with Dooku IMO is that Lucas barely did anything with him. He got a capable actor like Christopher Lee and introduced him at the end of one movie and killed him at the start of the next, such a waste.

Pretty much this. One big problem with the PT villains is that they're never used to their full potential, they're introduced and quickly disposed of to make room for the next. I hope the villains in the ST will be handled better.

Say they clone Anakin...but to what purpose? Would you then have to recreate the circumstances that turned him into Vader? Then set him against his son (or whomever) and hope this time he doesn't turn on his master and die a hero again?

It'd also be a great way to kill the good will of longtime fans, seeing as how the redemption of Vader is such a key component of the story so far. Retreading it would be self-defeating, and negating or cheapening it would be just as bad.

Some aspects of the latest rumor(s) are actually fine.

I like the idea of a lightsaber being found and that being the item that catapults the newbies into action, but we aren't sure why and how.

Some of the others are questionable:

Han identifying the saber? How about R2? He's the one that held it for Luke and was there when it was made. (besides, he's R2 and knows everything).

Another superweapon? Why? Been there done that.

Then there's the absolutely absurd and laughable.

A hand floating in space? Imagine the chuckles from the audience. Not the way you want to start a SW movie. The rest may be great, but in the nature of all SW, the opening sequence after the text crawl sets the stage. What stage would be set if a hand is floating in space? A late night Adult Swim skit?

So, one could easily take the better parts of the rumors and leave the rest. However, this was all delivered in a single package. As such, the only way some would be true and other stuff not is if the information was purposely leaked. Hear me out for a moment:

(1) A few bits if information has been leaked (search for Luke, John Boyega playing a trooper of some sort)

(2) Abrams, Kennedy, etc. start to fear that other information will leak as well. Time to take a preemptive strike.

(3) A load of disinformation is "leaked" attached to slightly modified versions of already leaked stuff that doesn't really give much of the plot away. Therefore, whoever receives it thinks it must be true since it is grouped with other "true" stuff.

(4) The general public gets a hold of it (although, while not yet being denied, the latest stuff hasn't made its way to the mainstream media outlets). NOBODY believes it because the floating hand is so preposterous it cannot be true. This truly repulsive rumor buries the other stuff and the entire thing gets dismissed.

(5) If successful, any other rumor involving the already leaked information gets discarded by those who read it. Nothing that comes out stating the same stuff is deemed credible.

BOOM-problem solved. You've made your own leaks unbelievable and no more leaks to the same sites are believable either.

That's my take. Hopeful? Yeah, probably. I dont' want to see SW ruined by a hand floating on the screen when all 6 other movies had ships and the most recent had a massive battle.

Well that would make for a perfect film opening: A leg is seen drifting through space, gripping a lightsaber....
