Yeah, after giving it much thought, I think I can wait on this. Too much to buy from now until December, and as much as I'd love to have this, I can't say it's an urgent own, especially considering the price and the nitpicks I have with it.

Very annoying if we have to buy this mega set with the toy just to get all the discs.

I don't get why the toy bothers people so much. It's not adding to the cost of the set, nor does it look like it's taking up much room at all. Just pretend it's not there, or part of the box art.

You might be right, but I think by the time they release these in seperate Blu-ray volumes, especially by the time they get to Season 3, they'll probably include the bonus disc there, too, as a way of tempting buyers. Afterall, this Complete Series Edition is supposed to be Limited, so they shouldn't be around for too long, and WB would probably want to have future costumers buying future editions rather than going back and buying the old ones from private sellers at high prices. So including the bonus disc later keeps their sales going for them with new costumers. Of course, they probably don't want you to know that at the moment, because they want you to jump on this edition.

UGH so annoyed the DVD Set Box seems nice than the BLU case with all the fluff that usually I don't mind but when the JUNK gets plastered as part of the cover art it is just epic FAIL. then again this is WB and they live to ruin artwork for sure lol If I don't buy the set then I miss the fast way to sell off the HD UV code for a decent price and helping out on the cost UGH lol

I understand the possible rationale for putting all the bonus content on a separate disc, but that still doesn't explain why the press release lists the S3 discs as having 10, 14 and 2 episodes -- those disc counts are inconsistent with what WB is doing for S1 and S2, and make no sense. With 26 episodes, discs with 10, 10 and 6 episodes makes more sense, so I'm hoping that was just a mistake in the press release.

Maybe or maybe not. I am leaning towards the bonus disc being unique to this limited edition set.

I honestly don't think compression is going to be an issue on this release. WB has been good about that in the past with other shows IMO. The footage in the trailer looks good as well.

My main thing is I want all the episodes without the collectibles. Until I hear of such a release (which I doubt given this seemingly comprehensive announcement, I will stick to what I have ordered and hope for a price drop.

Annoying if it is It would be like being forced to buy the expensive Slimer statue set with Ghostbusters 1 and 2 if you wanted the double pack and all the bonus content.

When I hear them describe it as "pixilated" I can't help but think of the tiny digital low-res squares being visible on your screen. I know that's not what is intended, and it's only DVD, not HD, but still, strange way to pitch it.
Who wants just the first season though?

I think plenty of people would be content with a subset of episodes and season one was very strong.

Do we know if it'll be region free? Are WB releases usually Region free?

They were probably going for a nod to the quirky alliteration associated with the series but yeah, pixelated was a poor choice of words all things considered.

How do you know it's not adding to the cost? I can see them, easily, offering a pared-down release without all the useless crap WB crams in these Collector's Sets and seeing the MSRP be a few dollars lower. They've done it before many times. As far as the room it takes up, have you seen the Dark Knight, ben-hur or Gone with the Wind sets? They're bulky and inconvenient for storage IMO.

I'm also surprised at how lame the extras are. For a $200+ set, I expected a lot more in the way of interesting special features than these. If they do a disc-only release without the extras, I can live with that too. The special features don't look very "special" all things considered.

Because if you know anything about the history of the show, and the struggles with licensing, this price is pretty low to begin with. It's a hot wheels car, it's not adding anything to the cost. Hell, they could sell just the discs, and nothing else, and charge the same amount, and it would still be a good value, all things considered. The MSRP's of these sets are usually determined first and foremost by the BD's, that's why DVD's don't typically add to the cost in BD/DVD combos (Disney excepted), nor do UV, or other physical extras that are sometimes included with BD's.

Basic math says five hours of footage on a maxed out dual layer BD50 disc would result in about 21 megabit/s average bitrate. We don't have any details on audio yet, but let's say it will be about 2 megabit/s, so the video bitrate would be around 19 megabit/s, which is about the same as the Twin Peaks set.

The majority of Warner releases have been region free.

Chalk this nit-picky bullshit up to (long dormant) economist in me: the car adds to the cost of the set (they have to pay something for the cars, boxes with little windows cost more than boxes without, etc) but it probably doesn't add to the price
