I agree. And it amazes me still with Marvel's track record that they still get flack from a certain few. I think Marvel has earned our trust that they aren't going to blow this. Even though Guardians hasn't been officially released yet, it's yet another tell-tale sign that Marvel knows what they are doing.

Doesn't Marvel usually sign people to contracts for 6 - 9 films? I don't know if Phoenix would go for that, but he's a great actor and he could play the role.

Like Comicman said - this is one of those out of the box choices. It's where no one ever suggests a certain actor for a role, but once it's announced, you say "why didn't I think of that? He'd be great."

Sometimes it's about making the big films so you can make the little films. Not everyone is Tom Cruise. Ethan Hawke said he regrets not doing Batman because that would've given him the opportunity to make other films he missed out on.

Joaquin Phoenix would certainly be a interesting choice for the role as Doctor Strange, and is definitely someone that I would have never even expected to be get that role.
