3 years is not a long time. And look at all the stuff Disney is throwing our way in those three years. More Marvel. More Star Wars. More Pirates. And I'm hoping at some point, more Tron and more National Treasure.

Been listening to the soundtrack. I can't get the Pina Colada song out of my head. Must watch Mars Attacks now.

It sucks that Fox has the rights to Silver Surfer and Galactus. The cosmic side of the MCU will feel incomplete without them.

Quick IMAX question. Anyone been to the AMC West Chester IMAX north of Cincinnati? They have reserved seating for tickets. Just want to know opinions on the screen and auditorium...

At least Marvel have the rights to Dr Strange and Adam Warlock - both more important in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline.

And if FF is a dud, like a lot are hoping it will be, Marvel might get the rights back before Phase IV to use those characters.

Don't count on it Fox will hang onto those rights for eternity.

Doubt it. They will end up reverting back to Marvel one way or another if this new film is horrible.

Well the only way this comes sooner if it takes the second 2016 date, which is going to be Doctor Strange, or a few months up into the May 2017 date. Three years is a perfect amount of time, especially considering all the other movies we're getting in the meantime.

They want to hold onto the rights to both the FF and X-Men just as a way of preventing the competition from getting their hands on them. At the time a load of the movie rights to their biggest properties were sold, Stan and the guys were selling them off for virtually peanuts - Roger Corman got hold of the FF! They have adopted a "If I can't have them, no-one can" attitude towards the rights. Many would also argue that they would be shown up good and proper if Marvel made X-men and FF movies themselves.

Films like Superman IV and a general downturn of interest meant that Marvel didn't view them as company-floating material. This was the kind of same kind of profit void Star Wars fell into by the end of 1984, leaving it financially dead and undesirable. It was only when CGI meant that it was becoming possible to have Spider-Man crawl up a wall without the aid of window-cleaner rigging, leaving technology to bump up the value of the titles.

I digress. Stan & co selling off the rights for some magic beans may not have been a bright idea at the time, but they ended up paving the way for Marvel being the movie powerhouse it is now, firmly getting hold of the Golden Goose at the other end of the beanstalk.

However, the new FF movie seems like a really bad idea, turning Marvels superhero family into the Handi-Quacks. The sad truth is that no matter how awful it might be, there will always be an audience of the ignorant who just want to see shiny effects and Herculean feats, regardless of how poorly it treats the material.

Off to see Guardians on Thursday, and my local fleapit has just started selling hot nachos. Is there a better combination for fun at the movies?

Not to say this movie isn't great, the positive buzz around it is undeniable, but what exactly is the deal with the first 20-30 reviews of a big studio genre film being overwhelmingly positive, then the 'real' reviews come out, and the tomatometer drops to earthly levels. Who's getting that studio money, RT, the critics, or both? There's definitely some manipulation going on here, even if it's just review release timing.

I have not, but it's nice to see another local here. I usually go to Regal Cinemas in Mason. I might have to check it out sometime.

***As far as the whole Fox/Marvel issue, sure the FF rights could revert back to Marvel eventually. But if Disney wants it bad enough, they can buy them out. Who would have thought that ANYONE could buy the rights to Star Wars before two years ago? If I would have told all of you that Disney was going to buy Star Wars 5 years ago, you would all think I was crazy.***

That's not really true...There's plenty of time the first batch of reviews are mixed to negative. We saw that with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 not that long ago. Same with Age of Extinction. I get managing your expectations, but these little conspiracy theories about critics being paid off and what not crack me up.

I'm not saying it happens on every picture, or even every studio release, but when it does follow this pattern, it's pretty pronounced. These same 25 reviews have been sitting here for 3 or 4 days, which is enough time for fans to run around forums, social media, and article comments shouting "OMG! 100%!" which I think is exactly what the studio wants. I don't know if you would consider radio station "payola" a conspiracy, but it certainly was the way things worked, for years. The hilarious thing is, the first time I noticed this was back in 2010 for 'MacGruber', which had 10 or 12 positive reviews, giving it, yes, a 100% positive rating, for about 4 days, and we all know what a landmark film that's considered to be, to this day I just think that RT, which I use and agree with mostly, is frequently used as a part of the ol' viral marketing campaign.

Of course a positive vibe is exactly what the studio wants. But they cannot control what people say about the movie.

The new Captain America, X-Men, and Planet of the Apes movies all had resoundingly positive reviews this early on as well. They are all very good summer movies. Spider Man 2, and Transformers 4 had really mixed reviews from the get-go, and they are not as well-received by most people either.

If you're an Thanos Quest/Infinity Gauntlet/Wars, or a Guardians of The Galaxy Comic book fan, or a Marvels The Avengers fan then this shit is gonna be awesome. Even if your a Marvels Cinematic Universe fan this will obviously be worth 6-20 bucks for an entertaining nite. I think this movie deserves some pretty damn high reviews regardless if the "system" at rotten tomatoes or where ever the flip you get your "info" "authority" on what to watch because you dont have a brain of your own so your a marketing zombie. Good 4 ya sonny. Its gonna be well worth the price of admission. Duh. And yeah its gonna be a fun movie that people will happily review well/high. Double Duh. What's really absurd is the people that think it can't be good. You people need help!

My daughter only has Friday off so we have to go then 7:40 pm and my 75 year old mother wants to go too . Can't wait . I have found that some times it is good to go the first day , it seems like it would be most packed but a lot of the time everyone thinks that and some stay away so there are less people .

I understand why people stay away from opening weekend shows, but movies are really fun with a packed audience even if you have to sit off to the sides rather than in the middle.

Your 75 year old mother wants to see this? Sweet.
