Bumps Avengers out of my top 3 MCU.

Chris Pratt would have been a huge star 25 years ago. It's too bad we live in an era where the movie star is dead.

Is Guardians a standalone franchise it will we see these characters in a avengers movies and vice versa?

Is Nebula a robot? If not, I didn't totally get who she is. Wished she was in more scenes as that's such a departure for Karen Gillan from Amy. And having met her at a show she is really sweet so when I say Nebula is a departure, it's a huge departure. Glad Nebula
[Show spoiler]didn't die and escaped. Think she'll be in the sequel?

Saw it today and loved it. The way the film starts makes you feel like you missed something. Also went at 11:30 this morning and it was still a packed house.

Random thoughts.
Surprised at how well Batista did.
Loved Yondu and Nebula.
Cant wait for the blu-ray to come out so people can pick apart the Collectors collection.
Pumped for the sequel, cant wait for them to get deeper into the characters back story, especially Drax and Star Lord

Infinity stones and Thanos, haven't you see any of the previous films. Just kidding.

And Nebula had robot parts, Thanos has had her upgraded. She will be back.

1) Chances are, with one of the infinity gems playing a major role in the film (and two others being in Avengers and Thor 2), we will probably see some type of crossover in Phase 3.

Presumably before Avengers 3, since I'm thinking both the infinity gems and Thanos will be the focus of A3.

2) Unless the MCU eventually states different, I'm pretty sure they are going the comics route and having Nebula originally be a normal alien who eventually gets cyborg parts added to her (which we assume happened during her time with Thanos prior to GotG).

They'll crossover. The pieces are already being set up to go that way.

I thought it was mostly garbage. The humor fell flat. The story or should I say plot, was derivative and cliche and relies far too much on previous knowledge of the Marvel films and universe to function on its own. The action was pure nonsense - all flash no substance constantly breaking the movies own rules. The only bright spot was the prison break, but even that made little sense. So basically, just another Marvel movie.

....And here we are! Was wondering when the first negative review would arrive!

(All I have to say is 92% positive on RT, and audience score is 96%! )

Nathan Fillion is listed as the Monstrous Inmate. Did I miss him? I don't recall seeing him. Did he have any lines?

Wow, I didn't love it the way a lot of folks on here apparently did, but I gotta disagree with a few of your takes. First of all, the humor was not flat. Chris Pratt was hit or miss with some of his lines, but Rocket, Groot, and Drax were all hilarious. And it had some pretty clever lines(like when Drax said nothing would go "over his head") and pop culture references.

The action was decent, but not that great I'll admit. A lot of the fight scenes were done with too many closeups and quick edits. Maybe they were trying to hide the stunt men and women, but it did get annoying at times. The only character whose fights looked good was Drax. And that's probably because Batista has a little bit of experience in that area with his wrestling background.

I completely disagree about needing to know about the Marvel universe or previous films to enjoy this movie. I hardly knew anything about GOTG going in and I was able to follow it. And aside from the first scene with Thanos which references The Avengers, what else would you possibly need to have seen previously to understand what was going on? This is the closest thing we've had to a standalone movie from Marvel since Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.

I assume he's the one who had
[Show spoiler]Groot's fingers go up his nose.
It didn't sound like him though.

Completely disagree with this.
It is the most self-sufficient movie in the MCU in a while.

Non-fans can go into this not knowing who Iron Man, Cap and Thor are, who the heck Thanos is and about his appearance in Avengers, etc. etc. and still enjoy the heck out of it and be able to be up to speed with everything as the movie presents information in its own borders.

Humor is subjective. I didn't laugh once. Rocket was kind of amusing, I'll admit. This doesn't matter too much, but few of the jokes registered with the large opening day audience I was with.

It was just noise. Why does Ronin not just kill Drax? Oh that's right...he can't because the script says so. Ugh. Constant nonsense like that.

It's not hard to follow the movie - that wasn't my point. Context is the big problem. I don't know jack about Thanos or Ronin or whatever the hell else they kept referencing. Nothing registered or mattered because I haven't read the Marvel Guide half a dozen times. It was just lazy writing.

This. That's an nonsensical argument, because the movie was completely standalone, other than the fact we've briefly seen Thanos before, and the talk of the Infinity Stones. Otherwise, the whole plot of the film was completely different and didn't rely on any previous knowledge of the MCU.

They explain everything you need to know about Ronan...He was upset by the peace treaty that Xander signed with the Kree Empire. He was a religious extremist who wanted to make the Xanderians pay for killing his father and grandfather. It's all there. You just have to pay attention. It's no different than knowing very little about Darth Vader in A New Hope, only to discover over the next three films in that series.

If all you require is flashy images and quick cuts to engage you, then yes, you will enjoy Guardians. However, if you require context, clever writing, and surprises you will leave disappointed.
