They basically have to keep Spider-Man in production to keep the rights to the universe. That's half the main reason they're doing this. The other half is that Sony doesn't have any franchise and they've had rough times, financially.

So, they're basically just throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. After ASM2 I'm very weary about any future movies from them. The complete opposite of the way I feel after X-Men: DOFP.

Black Cat on the big screen in a solo flick really? i imagine most people will just think its a catwoman ripoff...

They could probably do better by making a Rom Com involving Mary Jane in her escapades before Peter Parker (with lots of cameos of peter parker/spider man throughout)

Actually that's my idea btw if i see that on the big screen you're getting sued!

Well, if you look at it from their perspective, Sony has to do this or they're really done as a studio. I don't think they'd be in this big of trouble if they got the dollars from the merchandising of Spider-Man, which they don't. That goes to Marvel...which in turn really goes to Disney.

See, all they have to make money is Spider-Man. James Bond isn't theirs either. They just distribute them.

Sony never developed any franchises outside of Spider-Man over the years. They're not like Paramount of WB who have developed many diffrent types of franchises over the years. Hell, Lionsgate has more franchises than Sony.

I think this is a better idea than Sinister Six.

Introduce some of the sinister six or other villains in a Black Cat movie. Have them team up in the next Spider-man movie.

This is a better idea that what Sony is turning out in my opinion.

Not really a fan of the spin-offs for these characters in general, but this would be the way to make the best of it.

So The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is coming out four years later instead of two years because of two spinoff movies.

Great.

Sony's latest Spider-Man movie didn't do as well as they hoped, so instead of using a laserlike focus on ensuring that the third one is the best one yet...they decide to focus on spinoffs.

This is why they're so gung-ho with trying to make adaptations of the video game franchises they own.

Interesting development.

I'm betting on the female character being Black Cat, because at that point, she'd have starred in 2 SM films, so audiences would be more familiar with her.

Though, I'm sure this will eventually answer the question of who owns the Spider-Woman film rights, depending on if Sony chooses another heroine.

If it does turn out to be Black Cat, she's going to have to have a significant role in Sinister Six. Her appearance in ASM2 was utterly pointless, and audiences just won't care. Even then, the character is going to be a difficult one without the Spider-Man/Peter Parker dynamic. Sony would be pre-maturely banking on the character's popularity before there's anything to go off.

How about an Uncle Ben origin movie where we find out he was actually a superhero during WWII called Captain North America who fought the axis along with good guys the Submarine Sandwich and the Human Lighter. Somehow he gets thrown through time by a time portal created by a magician called Doctor Weird and gets to meet Spider-Man in the year 2016. Cameo by Spider-Ham in the end credits talking to Benicio Del Torro as Che.

Actually looking at this list it'll be a miracle if Sony is still in the movie business in a few years.http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/...tudio=sony.htm

I like Black Cat as a supporting character to Spider-Man, but not as a solo character in her own film. At the end of the day, she's a Catwoman rip-off, and I don't see her own movie having much success.

Don't buy the ASM2 when it's released right away, and we might get our wish!

Why do I get the feeling this is going to bomb at the box office? And I don't think it's because it is a female lead character, but because it's most likely the choice of the female character and the unknown factor of the actress playing her. The studio should not be taking a chance on a character like Black Cat and a newer actress as the lead and expect to make money off it, especially when we have so many other comic book based films that audiences would gladly rather pay to see more than that.

I think it would be a lot smarter for Sony to try to hold us off on The Amazing Spider-Man 3 movie, by releasing The Black Cat and Sinister Six movies as direct to video or download releases, because that's what they sound like. No one is going to see these in the theaters, and if they do, I don't expect them to be that great critically or financially at the box office.
