Brightness +2? No way!!!
I used to have it at -3 and 0 on my Oppo.

I have found that the Oppo has a stronger effect on the brightness and contrast settings, and therefore chose to use them together with the Pioneer.

I know the blue filter method is heavily criticized, but it came out perfectly in my case.

Without using the Oppo, my Pioneer can't give me the values I need for accuracy in terms of contrast, in particular, and to a lesser extent, brightness.
Why don't you try it, and see if your coloured squares finally show all the variants? Just to experiment.

You are relying on the test disc too much here. Those sort of adjustments in the player are not needed. The Oppo is a reference player, and thus, outputs exactly what's on the disc, no further adjustment needs to be done. The Kuro clips, this is normal, don't try and adjust to counter it, or you will end up with an image that isn't in relation with the spec.
