Sorry I wasn't very clear, and to think my brain is as cluttered with all these questions as my thread appears =)

What I meant was...there's no degradation of the picture quality if I use a HDMI to DVI converter is there? (since the current HDMI is not making use of any sound output from the PS3 whatsoever, the audio is sent out via the multi AV cable just so I can get audio to the amp without having to switch on the TV)

I'm not enjoying surround sound at the moment =) I'm not really that much of a fan, but I know the quality is getting better.

The SACD speakers...I mean, the main speakers are B&W DM604S3's and they have nautilus tweeters, capable of the extended frequency range of SACD's (or indeed DVD-Audio) I also have these (and interconnects between components) connected by QED silver spiral bi-wire cable. Therefore I can hear everything very precisely and cleanly. Even the difference between using rubber pads and vicious floor spikes under my speakers. I've spent a lot of time and money getting a very realistic and pure sound quality that represents every media accurately, and then along comes Sony with a cheapy proprietary cable that makes music sound metallic =) but then that's why bass and treble settings were invented: for compensation. And I must say it's the only component that I have to compensate for. Then again, the PS3 was quite cheap compared to what else is on the market, and it has far more functionality than a simple blu ray player. At least, I justified, I can do other stuff with the thing if blu ray doesn't hit it off.

It sounds "good enough"..... but it's the weaker link in the system.

I have another question.....
bitstream and pcm.... I can't figure out which of these soundtracks are more lossless.

I've been ripping CD's now at 256kbps AAC and they sound as best as I can seem to make them when listening on the PS3, but then the idea is that it's handy to listen to the music low level while dining etc. without having to keep getting up and popping CD's into the player. Anything less than that, and there's a noticable rounding off of the outer extreme frequencies...especially noticeable in the low level bass.
