I'm not saying Lucas was right on this, but his aim from square one was basically to do "Buck Rogers" with better special effects. The characters and situations were heavily inspired by older mythology and common stereotypes, so there's nothing original in the strictest sense.

You could count on one hand all the "really" bad lines in the first three films combined. The PT has so many it's not even funny. Heck just one of them alone has more than all three of the OT combined. That's not hate that's just a fact. I am talking about "cringe" lines. But that has nothing to do with the "serial" aspect of the films.

The only line I can think of right now that truly made me cringe was Anakin telling Obi-Wan he should've suspected the Jedi in "Episode III". It sounded too high-pitched and overdubbed.

You keep saying that, but that doesn't make it so. It's your opinion. Just because some agree doesn't mean EVERYONE does and it also doesn't mean you have to keep shoveling it down our throats.

Otherwise your posting history would do Palpatine proud.

Is there really so much hate for the prequels that it needs to overflow from the Complete Saga thread into the Episode VII thread?

Although there are a few changes to the OT that I could definitely do without, and a few over the top corny bits here and there in the prequels, I really like them all, and I am one of those old guys who saw 'Star Wars' in the theater in '77 when I was 7 years old.

I am also really excited to see Episode VII too.

The fact that cheesy dialogue is intentionally cheesy doesn't make it any less cheesy, does it?

And Elvis is pretty much right. Expecting the dialogue in a Star Wars movie to not suck is not unreasonable because the dialogue in the first two Star Wars movies didn't suck.

Now, I will give you this much...by Attack of the Clones we were pretty solidly in fool me twice territory. By that point eye rolls might be warranted but surprise was pretty much not.

There are plenty of bad lines in the first trilogy if you put it under the microscope. For example: "She'll die before she'll tell you anything!" always makes me cringe. And people have been making fun of Luke's Tosche Station power converter line for 35 years.

This has nothing to do with whether or not his statement was positive.

It was.

How is that a bad line? And the Tosche station line is not made fun of other than the "delivery" of the line.

"No, it's because I'm so in love with YOU!"

"I have been dying a little each day since you came back into my life"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOO"

Those are the 3 that stand out more then anything in the PT

But in case you wanted more bad dialogue hes 50 more lines that sucked to.

“Yousa thinking yousa people ganna die?”
“I don’t care what universe you’re from, that’s got to hurt!”
“Love won’t save you, Padme. Only my new powers can do that.”
“…Don’t try it, Anakin. I have the high ground!”
“There’s always a bigger fish.”
“I’m haunted by the kiss that you should never have given me.”
“Are you an angel?”
“I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.”
“Ye gods, whatta meesa sayin’?”
“I sense Count Dooku.”
“Ani? My goodness, you’ve grown!”
“How wude!”
“I can’t take Dooku alone! I need you!”
“I’ve been wondering… what are midi-chlorians?”
“Chesco, Sebulba. Chipoka oomen geesa. Me teesa radical fbombati chop chawa.”
“I have the POWER! UNLIMITED… POWER!”
“Droidekas!”
“Uh! So uncivilized.”
“Now this is pod racing!”
“So this is how liberty dies… with thunderous applause.”
“…It is only natural. He cut off your arm, and you wanted revenge.”
“Always two there are, no more, no less.”
“Mom, you said that the biggest problem in the universe is no one helps each other.”
“He owes me what you’d call a ‘life-debt.’ Your gods demand that his life belongs to me.”
“From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!”
“I thought we had decided not to fall in love. That we’d be forced to live a lie and that it would destroy our lives.”
“A vergence, you say?”
“Now that I’m with you again, I’m in agony. My heart is beating, hoping that that kiss will not become a scar.”
“No loose wire jokes.”
“Your mother had gone out early, like she always did, to pick mushrooms that grow on the vaporators.”
“For reasons we can’t explain, we are losing her.”
“…Well, then you really are lost!”
“He said… you killed younglings!”
“What if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists, and the Republic has become the very evil we have been fighting to destroy?”
“I have waited a long time for this moment, my little green friend.”
“…I’ll try spinning. That’s a good trick. Whoa-ah!”
“Train yourself to let go… of everything you fear to lose.”
“There was no father. I carried him, I gave birth, I raised him. I can’t explain what happened.”
“You were banished because you were clumsy?”
“You are in my very soul, tormenting me…”
“…We used to come here for school retreat. We would swim to that island every day. I love the water. We used to lie out on the sand and let the sun dry us and try to guess the names of the birds singing.”
“At an end your rule is, and not short enough was it.”
“Ray shields!”
“Just being around her again is… intoxicating.”
“Your new Empire?”
“Symbionts?”
“They live inside me?”
“I don’t understand.”
“Your presence is soothing.”
“…We live in a real world, come back to it. You’re studying to become a Jedi, I’m… I’m a senator.”

But the WORST piece of dialogue comes from Obi-Wan Kenobi:

"You have allowed this dark lord to twist your mind until now....until now you've become the very thing you swore to destroy"

^ This sentence is actually completely wrong. It should be "And now" rather than "until now". Unforgivable really. With all the people and crew, how could NOBODY pick up on this glaring grammatical error?

I have to explain this so many times, even to so called fans. The moment he dropped the cane, he's using the force. And the whole fight was a defense, it was war.

I sincerely doubt that many fans of the series have day jobs as grammar professors.

I've been a fan since the mid-80s, when I saw Episode IV on VHS. I like all six films, and generally get irritated when people try to condemn them. I never had many assumptions about what the prequels should've been, so I wasn't torn apart with how they turned out. My only desire was to see Anakin eventually fight Obi-Wan in a volcano, and that came true for the most part.

All in your opinion apart from the grammar issue about which, let's face it, one could spend all day criticising Americans. Anyway, you've overlooked one "There are no bounty hunters here that I am aware of" should have been "...of whom I am aware". So you're not as clever as you think
