There's also some resemblance to Ford. Just going by appearances, they couldn't have picked a better actress.

Also, as someone who IS familiar with most of Daisy's work prior to her landing the gig in STAR WARS, trust me when I say that we are all in for one hell of a treat. This girl has some serious acting chops. I know this may sound like hyperbole, but I firmly believe that J.J. struck cinematic gold when he found her.

Another picture I hadn't seen before:

Such things do happen in real life, though. For example, June Carter Cash died in May of 2003, and Johnny followed her that September.

And they were both a hundred and fifteen years old.

They were in their 70s, genius. That's not very old by today's standards.

Had Johnny Cash given birth to twins just before losing the will to live?

Just curious.

Of course not; my point was that Johnny likely died from a broken heart over losing June, while Padme died because she couldn't take the stress of what Anakin had become.

Ok gotta stop you right there. Cash was not and had not been in good health for years (also much like my idol as my name entails he had been a junkie) I'm sorry but they should have come up with something just a little bit better like complications from child birth or Anakin damaged something. She has lost the will to live....lame. Lost her will to live when they couldn't even connect their love on screen, did not ever at any point look like they were in love. Now Allie and Noah dying together at the end, much more believable they looked and acted like they were in love. Maybe then you could half buy it.

I don't know man. I've defended the prequels a lot and ROTS is my favourite Star Wars film but even I can't defend that awful death scene. It should have been re-written to have been a fatal-complication instead of her just dying of a broken heart and loosing the will to live.

Cash was a diabetic late in life, but many have said his condition rapidly worsened after June's death.

Wait, I'm not sure I follow you...

Did Padme lose the will to live or not?

Because that's the lame part, after all.

Dying of a broken heart can be a terribly romantic notion but it can also be a little unflattering to the person who alas simply can't go on alone.

If that person is a leader and a warrior and a parent of newborns simply giving up and dying goes beyond unflattering. In that case losing the will to live isn't terribly romantic.

It's just terrible.

If they'd done that, then Palpatine's scene when Vader first wakes up would've needed changing too. That moment worked because it served as a perfect example of Sith betrayal. All told, I'd have preferred Padme to survive as well, but Lucas made his call.

True, Lucas did it so it could tie in with the theme of the Sith being backstabbing bastards, but, as with much of what he did in the prequels, he's so enamoured with the idea and/or theme that he's conveying that he doesn't pay much attention to the actual execution of the idea. Palps lying to Vader about Padme is fine, but Padme dying from a broken heart having just given birth to her children is simply laughable. (IIRC they actually retconned it in one of the later novels, saying that a minute fracture in her neck was found afterwards!)

Why couldn't she have just, y'know, died in childbirth, like she bled out or something? Anakin may have precipitated the event itself, but a ruptured placenta or whatever couldn't have been foreseen and may have always been what fate intended for Padme anyway. That way, Palps could still have had his lie remain intact and Padme's death would've been much more convincing, and, dare I say it, heartbreaking. Instead, I just think 'selfish cow'.

I think the biggest overall problem with the prequels is Lucas didn't seem to have much interest in the daily on-set production. He let Rick McCallum run pretty much everything, and only took the reigns so no one else could take his characters away from him. When it all ultimately backfired, and those who hated it started condemning him personally, he got fed up, and sold it all to Disney.

Personally, I like most of the prequels. they're not perfect films, but neither is the original trilogy. I don't idolize the saga like more rabid fans choose to; I just roll with the punches as best I can. Sure, there's things I'd have done differently, but that was never my decision to make. My attitude about "Episode VII" is a mix of excitement and cautious optimism; I'm really hoping Abrams doesn't screw it up (never been a huge fan of his work). The original cast members being involved is a huge plus, but I'm still uncertain at this point. Hopefully, we'll get a teaser either this Christmas or early next year.

Selfish cow might be a little harsh but linguistic quibbles aside (calling women cows is viewed in a much dimmer light on this side of the pond, I think), yeah, exactly.

She was never a brilliantly written, subtle, layered character but she definitely had her moments. Right up until the end when she turned out to be at least as big a wuss as the whiney, self-absorbed douchebag she married.
