Sounds like the 88 Films version is the one to get! Better video, better audio, and excellent extras not found on the US version, like the Japanese cut. Also, Region Free and US player friendly!

For an idea of the transfer differences, check out Troma's YouTube account and 88's YouTube accounts. The Troma Blu-Ray trailer has an HD print that looks good, but has scratches and flaws aplenty. 88 has a clip of their restored transfer and it is absolutely incredible! I doubt the movie has ever looked that good.

Can't wait for the sequels, either!

What about your release of Bloodsucking Freaks and The Last Horror Film? Are both region free? (extras and movie will play?)

Thanks in advance!

To those in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area, Troma will have a table at Monster Mania this weekend and most likely will have this for sale.

See, this is why I pre-ordered the 88 release when I first learned about the release.

I'd like to see some reviews first before I decide which to get.

Both 88 and Troma have exclusive features that I want. 88 has the Japanese cut and Troma has a new commentary, but it mostly comes down to which version has the best PQ.

very few films are out there that I will double dip however it is a no brainer getting the Troma signed us version and the 88 films one, granted my wallet is dying but damn was it worth it. Still would love to see Toxie 2 & 3 cut into one film, I love them seperately but both are bloated with unnecessary scenes. a 2 1/2 hour film of those 2 cut together would be perfect.

Yes the US version is the Directors cut, the UK version is the directors cut as well but offers the Japanese Cut.

I'm paying about $25 shipped to import the 88 Films release, compared to what Amazon.com is currently offering the Troma release for ($18.71 + $3.99 shipping, totaling $22.70).

For a little over $2 more, I'm getting a copy with lossless audio and an extra I'm more interested in (not to mention a transfer that, depending on the nature of the additional work done, may end up being better than Troma's release). I don't have a problem paying a little extra for quality. It's the same reason why I waited for the Re-Animator Blu-Ray sourced from the 4K transfer Capelight did, instead of buying the Image release.

Yup, we have to list a region b on amazon, we don't get any choice about it but the specs are on our website and 99% of our stuff is region free.

It just shows it pays to be clever and have a little investigate. No point buying something inferior for the sake of $2-3.

I locked in a pretty good price for the Troma release (~$13) so I think I'll stick to that. I would, however, like to get 88's as well assuming the extra cleanup will make a great difference. (IMO it was pretty negligible what Second Sight did with Re-Animator.)

Is there any chance of a discounted Toxie box set from 88 Films when all four Blu-rays are released? Furthermore, will The Toxic Avenger Part II be the uncut director's cut with the extra gore? I had that on DVD but sold it a while back.
