Default Are we ever going to see "Jaws 2" on Blu-Ray?

Been waiting for this forever. I know it's not the classic the original is by a long shot but I find it to be a decent sequel. Universal does'nt seem interested in releasing this. Can anyone speculate why?

I would guess because it's terrible and hopefully the people who make the decisions on whether or not this will come out on blu are doing the noble thing and helping us forget it exists.

I would almost gaurantee a release of this is dependent on sales of the first.

They're afraid that the high sales numbers for the sequels will make Spielberg angry. You don't want to see him when he's angry

Speak for yourself. I quite enjoy it. It's nowhere near as good as the original, but it's far from bad. From your Blu-ray collection, you do have a very good taste in movies, but don't you also enjoy some lesser, cheesy movies as a guilty pleasure?

It's inevitable that we'll get a Jaws set at some point. If Universal won' do it then Scream Factory will. Let's just hope a set happens sooner rather than much much later.

No way is Universal going to license a Jaws title to any other label, Not going to happen. They'll just sit on it till they want to release it.

The fact that they keep spewing out all these other poor catalogue titles is disappointing though.

I'd like to see a Jaws box set. I already have two copies of Jaws (steelbook and digibook), it's my favorite movie. I'd actually like to own 2, 3, and 4. None of them match Jaws - nothing could - but Jaws 2, while inferior, is an enjoyable enough movie. 3 is bad and 4 is terrible, but they're in "so bad it's good" territory. They're so absurd that they're fun to watch.

Haha! ;-)

I'd disagree on the "terrible" bit, though. It's a bit uninspired, true, without the layers of the original, and so is fairly unremarkable as creature features go, but I reckon it's well executed for what it is and develops (and sustains) a pretty good level of suspense. Okay, the attack on the helicopter is a bit much, but frankly so was Bruce leaping up onto the boat in the first one. (And for me, the second flick has the single scariest/most upsetting moment in the entire franchise.)

I'd bet the problem is funding. Universal generally seems more focussed on milking existing (re-)releases than in broadening its back-catalogue offerings. And if even Jurassic Park got a release based on a transfer recycled from the previous DVD master, then I reckon there's not much chance of Jaws 2 getting the funding needed to migrate cleanly to HD-Land.

Huh? I don't think one is needed. You can't possibly improve, or copy perfection.

It makes sense that they'll release a boxset next year to co-incide with JAWS' 40th Anniversary. I'll bet that was the deal with Spielberg: Release JAWS on its own then allow a boxset a couple of years later. I mean, Uni are pretty crap at releasing stuff but there's no way they're not going to release these at some point.

Makes sense that they would. People said we'd never see Exorcist 2 or 3 on Blu-ray, but there's a boxed set due out in a couple of months (though doubtless in both cases the subsequent films won't get significant restorations). If nothing else, it's a way for the studio to make even more money out of the original that yet another re-release wouldn't generate.

Reece may not have been advocating a remake, but simply thinking one may be inevitable. We didn't need a remake of Carrie, for instance, but we got one anyway.

I would like to see one. To me, remakes/reboots don't do anything but give me a look at how it could be done with updated technology. It doesn't affect my opinion on the original at all. I think it'd be cool to see a new Jaws movie with the CGI/practical effects that are available today.

Depending on who they could get to direct, it could even be quite good.

I guess I don't necessarily want a Jaws remake/reboot (although I wouldn't be against one), I just want to see a GOOD giant, killer great white movie that is well directed, well acted, and has top of the line effects.

Sharks friggin terrify me, and there are so few good shark attack movies

I would respect a complete release of the series on blu, but I would not personally purchase any of them aside from the original I have now. Original has its premiere animal attacks shark edition thing going on at a scientific level. But they killed him good in the end. Everything else after just felt like a slasher film to my viewing. As if Jaws, whether it be a living relative from the first; or it somehow was reborn from toxic petrol and radioactive waste dumped illegally into the Atlantic Ocean during world war II was now out to get revenge on those who fought back!

Outside of Godzilla and Congo I really dont buy much of the animal attacks movies. I got deep rising on dvd. Jaws was a whole other ballgame even when I first watched it in the early nineties as a child. And since I lived in Florida and was always at the beach it was especially scary for me whenever I would go back to the gulf on weekend. Oh the fun memories of watching above and below cautiously for that sinister fin as a lad. I would be in church and when the priest reads some part somewhere in the bible where its saying something about "and there will be gnashing of the teeth" or some mumbo jumbo like that I would instantly see jaws chomping down on some helpless bastard in my mind. That always put a smile on my face in every instance

I thought the one with the underwater corridors was fun though. But I would just as well re-watch those on a digital stream or download. I reserve the blu-ray full hd experience for the original and genuine dread of the First installment. I would just see him as another M.M. , Jason and Freddy after that and figure I can always kill it with my collection of Rambo guns. Oh how I cherrished my childhood in the nineties.

I still agree they would generate sales well into the next decade so long as they go on a future four pack or two double features with a single disk and no dvd. They would have to stop making them after a modern rendition . which I totally would love only for the sake of the amazing color contrasts they can get away with now and much more recent hottier cast. Nothing like Pihranna remake that would ruin it for me though. Cast looked great, and the gore was acceptable, but the talent was very lacking.

Hopefully that was neutral enough not to step on too many toes around here.
