Also, why are the French, German, and Indian DVD boxsets in English? Will that's just a temporary photo or will it remain in English upon release?

Wonder when the theatrical/extended editions will be released together via seamless branching?

Couple years after the separate TE and EE trilogy boxsets are released is my guess. Don't want to do it too early, jeopardize sales, but wait a few years after and you'll be sure to get people to double/triple/whatever dip...

I, for one, am glad they're separate. The Limited Edition DVDs they released in 2006 that had both cuts through seamless branching had mistakes on them. For instance, in the Green Dragon scene near the beginning of FotR: in the extended cut, you hear the hobbits singing starting on the exterior shot of the Green Dragon. But with the seamless branching, the exterior shot remains silent (as it is in the Theatrical Cut), and you only hear the singing once it cuts to inside.

There were several such flubs on those DVDs.

Yes, it's a temporary photo until the localized mockups are ready.

In India, it won't change. Most of the English movies are sold in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. But the majority of the buyers prefer the English editions. These were our covers for :

1. The Hobbit : An Unexpected Journey (Theatrical Edition : 2 Disc Special Edition) (English)

2. The Hobbit : An Unexpected Journey (Special Extended DVD Edition) (English)

3. The Hobbit : Ek Anokhi Jung (The Hobbit : The Desolation of Smaug : Theatrical Edition) (Hindi)

The last one is rarely bought.

Good price! Hopefully that's what it will be come release day. Hard to tell with WM's website and store being two separate things.

I wonder if that's a mistake? That's a great price for both! I'm really tempted to get both so I can turn that digi-pak into a Blu-Ray/DVD combo.

Yes, it was. I remember that I had pre-ordered from Amazon with a $5 off $25 promo and shortly before release Amazon matched Walmart's $19.96 so I ended up paying $14.96 from Amazon.

Nope. The blu rays gets a black amaray case, just like the LOTR Extended blu ray set.

I'm likely going to buy the digipack style DVD sets for these movies at some point in the near future. They were one of my favorite DVD packages for LOTR back in the day and it'd nice to have them all on the shelf next to one another.

By the way, the next one is already in the works:
