I got a small Order in today of some tiles I got thru amazon at decent prices.
They are all blind buys but I feel like these B grade noirs are best to watch in the hot summertime.

I consider Shack Out on 101 to be a B-grade noir, but the other three are top-notch winners in my book. Great order there!

Cool, I'd been putting off buying a lot of the Olive titles etc. I went with the cheaper priced ones for this batch.

Don't get me wrong, Shack Out on 101 is still a heck of a lot of fun. It's just quite a bit different in tone from the other three movies.

I've written User Reviews of all four of those titles, I believe. I've written User Reviews for most of the Olive noir titles to date, with the exception of one or two. I still need to watch my copy of Caught, though.

A few days ago I ordered the Force Of Evil Blu-Ray. If I had waited just a matter of hours I could have gotten it a little cheaper from DeepDiscount. It looked pretty good in this PBS film noir documentary I saw and I also read your review of it, TGO.

By the way, TGO, I didn't thank you for getting back to me about the noir sets I asked you about a little while back, and I'm sorry for not doing so earlier. A belated thank you!

Does anyone have an opinion on "Raw Deal"? Would you recommend it?

I liked Raw Deal a lot when I saw the DVD a few months ago. It's a taut story that plays out in true noir style, and there's some great work from Claire Trevor (Stagecoach, Murder, My Sweet), Raymond Burr, and Dennis O'Keefe.

It's another solid Anthony Mann film.

Guess I'm going to be collecting a few film noir's during my blindbuys through Arrow as well as video nasties. Never really explored Noir in any real depth in my personal time, but I absolutely loved the module I did on it during my A-Levels. Double Indemnity is one of my favourite films.

* * SPOILER * *

SHACK OUT ON 101 is a favorite one-of-a-kind movie, an absurdist take on the "Red Scare" films of the 50s with Lee Marvin as a Commie spy running his ring while hiding in plain sight as a short order cook in a roadside diner (and constantly hitting on co-worker Terry Moore). . . not to be missed if you have the right goofy sense of humor which, I believe, was fully intended by the filmmakers, the dialogue is priceless!

Don't forget that ridiculous weightlifting scene in which Slob (Lee Marvin) and the owner compare pecs and calves. Priceless.

You can't go wrong with any Anthony Mann noirs. They're all worth watching. Both DVD versions (Sony and VCI) of Raw Deal are roughly the same quality -- not great, but not terrible.

Default Is the first half of Psycho a Film Noir?

I use to like to think TOUCH OF EVIL was the last film noir, and then I would classify Citizen Kane as the first with a nice Orson Welles Bookend.

However lately (after reading a discussion about this a few years ago somewhere) I go along with Psycho, the first half, up until Janet Leighs death in the shower as the last classic film noir. A doomed character who makes a mistake and pays for it with her life. And then the rest of the movie, starting from the shower scene/murder is the first slasher film.

No love for Blast of Silence (1961), Cape Fear (1962), The Killers (1964), and possibly even The Manchurian Candidate (1962)?

Side note, I love The Manchurian Candidate.
