I remember lending out my Nintendo 64 controller to one of the guys in my neighborhood and it was only to be for an hour or two for them to play their game. Hours turned to days and about 2 weeks passed and I finally saw the guy at school and asked him for it. He said Junior has it.
I never got it back and Junior whoever he was probably pawned it off. I forever have that in the back of my head when lending things out. |

I have no problem lending people my movies. I simply tell them that movie would cost "xx.xx" if anything happens to it, and make sure they understand that they are responsible for it. If it doesn't come back or comes back screwed up, they either pay for it or find a new friend.

I used to and happily at that. However, people suck. They really do. I don't get the lackadaisical approach to borrowing things and being an absolute irresponsible stain on humanity on returning them. It also is a terrible position to put the loaner in to literally go after and nag to get the return back, which somehow makes me look like the bad person.

Of course I lend my collections out, Books, Movies, Cd's. Why else would I have them? Just to sit on a shelf and look pretty? If my friends or family want to borrow something that is ususually fine by me unless it's new and I want to watch it and haven't had a chance yet. Friends, friends, and new friends are completeley different, I don't know them enough to trust them.
And I have some neices I wont lend to anymore because of returned damaged movies butt the loss is on me, I lent it to them. Also the movie borrowing has decreased dramatically since I started a digital collection and set up some friends and family with access. |

You are allowing yourself to be taken advantage of! Whomever you lend your personal items to, they are totally responsible if anything happens to it, while it's in their possession. If the item is returned to you damaged, and not in the same condition when it was borrowed, then the person is held liable to replace, or pay for the damaged material(s).

Their just material things, family and friendship is much more important to me than a movie. |

This is true, but still family members, and close friends should take care, and be responsible for items that they borrow.

And for the most part that is true, %99 of my collection is in excellent condition after being lent out. But I loaned some DVD's to High School Girls and should have known better.

So we recently went on vacation and without my knowledge my daughter grabbed a bunch of blu rays with slips to watch the dvd's in the car on her portable dvd player. I didnt even know she had them but after a week in thecar you can imagine how the slips look. Of course there were some really good ones like Wall-E, Up, The Incredibles and Avatar.
Then I come home to find more were borrowed by a relative slips and all, including some more rare ones. Of course i am wondering how those will come back, but if I say anything then i am the crazy one for caring so much about a "piece of paper". No one understands these have value and are part of a collection. ![]() |

yes family can borrow discs, but discs only in a slim case or in the original case but no slip or anything like that, i even sometimes take out the digital copy code if hasn't been used
i let friends who only have dvd borrow stuff all the time, like the new 300 dvd, cloudy 2, and i don't have a problem with that since if i don't get the dvd back i don't care |

I'm missing a few DVD's from when I was in college letting friends or fraternity brothers borrow the movies. Now I only let family borrow my movies or a good friend that I know for certain will bring the movie back to me in a reasonable time.

It's not so much the movies, slips or whatever it may be, but the disrespect of just taking your stuff without your permission. I had a friend that I had an open door policy with, and he thought he could just "use" or "borrow" my stuff at his leisure. He's long gone; not because of this, but other BS he pulled.
