Thumbs up

I understand the craziness of having a $120k TV in the event. However, the two reasons I put it in are:
  1. Our TV Shootout event has always been about the flagship modes from each premium manufacturer competing to determine who makes the "World's best TV" Of course, we never expected anyone to make a $120k TV.

  2. Highly advanced video technology seems to trickle down to lower cost models in future years and I wanted to show what is capable and coming in the next year(s)

Finally, it's very exciting to see these stunning TVs that I would not expect anyone could see outside of the CES convention.

Our 2014 TV Shootout wall looks absolutely stunning! OLED TVs, Plasma, 4K full array and the very best bleeding edge lit ultra large displays! A sight to be seen by all video and technology enthusiasts.

Enjoy!

-Robert

I usually sit up front, but with screens that big I going to look for a seat further back. Did you add a balcony and popcorn machine this year too?

Yes, ^^.

Wish you would have started walking a few weeks ago. We need as many great folks like you to participate each year. So get the bike tuned up as it's much easier than walking 3k miles.

Glad you will be watching online, we'll give our cyberspace friends a shout-out!

Enjoy,

-Robert

Wow. From the article in HD Guru:

"There will also be a Vizio M652i-B2 flat panel back-lit with local dimming LED LCD HDTV on-hand. However, it will not be voted on as it did perform well enough to be included in the final group."

Whoa...tough audience...that was rough. Must have been a pretty nasty TV. It shows up, all dolled up for the dance, probably a nice box and everything, and just got kicked the f*** out.

I hope they didn't leave it in the alley out back. What happened? When they turned it on, did it show a FBI Ten Most Wanted poster of Robert Zohn or something? It had to be a real show-stopper.

Tough night. Very difficult to judge the tv's as everyone had to get up and mill about to view each set from it's sweet spot. There were some technical difficulties that I hope will be straightened out for today's event. First night is always glitch night.Any of you who watched it live saw that. The tv's were big, bold and expensive. Robert gave us a head's up that these were the manufacturer's best and not necessarily the tv's that you and I would go out and buy as in past events. They were more of specialty sets geared towards those with money to burn and not videophiles or the average Joe. LG did provide a 55 inch OLED tv not yet available which was a glimpse at the future of this new technology. It was one of the favorites and I was lucky to be seated in front of that set. Highlight of the night had to be Joe Kane's presentation. Amazing !!. I was like a little kid seeing Babe Ruth

Robert and his family were very gracious hosts. They provided food and drink and made everyone feel welcome. So thank you Robert and your family for working so hard to make so many feel comfortable.

Default 2014 Value Electronics Shootout.

I'm hoping they show or say why the M65 isn't on display. Was surprised none of the results were released (CR ratio, etc) last night or asked about. We had questions online but were largely ignored which was disappointing as well. Hoping this afternoon goes a little more smoothly. I know this is not an easy event to put together and then manage when it goes live so I have a great appreciation for Robert and everyone involved in getting this put together.

Very nice show. No mention of 3-D, I suppose that ship has sailed. Interesting interaction between the calibrators and industry reps - very frank and open, something I would not have expected.

Truth was told, and I was fascinated. Robert Zohn was gracious, diplomatic, and just to do this, very brave.

Joe Kane also spoke truth to power. Good show overall!

Robert can you make sure online questions get asked? Last night there were alot of questions about OLED and nobody read them. I'm also shocked nobody in the audience had any questions about it.

I want to know what the calibrators like D-Nice thinks about it.

Loved it last night, yeah had some glitches and I am sure they will work hard to fix but no matter what it made for some great viewing. Joe Kane's presentation was fantastic and lets hope the industry insiders take on board the points he was making.
Many thanks to Robert and the team of Experts for putting on another great event.

3d is of no importance to panel performance nor is it considered worth talking abut by the experts there. Joe Kane did get a chuckle out of the crowd with a pun aimed at 3D

I missed that...the lack of interest is stunning.

I'm surprised no one asked the LG people if they are releasing a 2015 plasma line.

An amazing event yesterday, very awesome to be there for Joe Kane's presentation, the OLED sets in person were amazing (particularly the LG), the team of Kevin, DeWayne and David work so well together and of course the Zohn family must get special mention for being such great hosts.

Anyone that's thinking about going one year...do it! You won't be disappointed.

I was going to ask last night during the Q&A but asked about native 21:9 content and 4K physical disc format instead, after those questions were answered I forgot about the plasma question.

I was impressed with LG'd presentation. For a company who had not spoken there in a few years, they did a solid job. He was wrong about one thing. They have had sets (their top of the line plasma the be exact), in last year's and the 2012 shootouts. Those sets were just so bad, that David, Duane and Kevin didn't bother to talk about them. Not sure what Robert even bothered to include them in the shootout in the 1st place. I wonder if Robert knows anything about LG doing a 2015 plasma line (or if they are not).

Had Robert had the shootout in Sept, I would have been there for sure. I'll be there next year (10th anniversary of the shootout).

Robert, would you be able to tell us where the Vizio failed in performance and if a calibration report will be posted for it? There are some folks at AVS wanting to know some of this information. We tried asking on the webcast but got drowned out.

I also want to say thank you to you and all of the participants. This event is not easy to put together and it turned out great. Looking forward to next year where I am sure we'll see some great "surprises"..

I asked Kevin Miller prior to the show if Panasonic had any plans to get back into the plasma line now that they dropped OLED and he said no and he believed Panasonic would be folding up as a company very soon. That would be awful.

That's pretty bad. The suppliers are shrinking. I fear for Samsung.
