So yea... 10% are offended. Well, I'm sure 10% of Americans find the gay population offensive. Should we outlaw homosexuals to appease the 10% who are offended? Extreme example maybe, but there are plenty of people out there offended... doesn't mean their needs should be met.

Can't give in to every single "issue" in the world. Too politically correct, as I've said.
It's not that hard to give in to "issues" which are racial slurs. It's not like there are thousands of them. There are what, a few dozen?

Comparing that to Homosexuals or saying that it's similar to "my ancestors might have failed in the gold rush to California" is an absurd straw-man.

And the guy in the article is absolutely correct that it depends on who gets asked and how. Michael Wilbon is very vocal about not being totally opposed to the N-word. Would he be ok if THAT was the Washington team name? No he damn well would not.

I'm perfectly ok with political correctness if that means we stop using racial slurs. The fact that you think it's a good idea to use it more to make up for those not using it tells me everything I need to know about who you are.

Is the team name really being used as a racial slur though? Why do we have to give in to something that has simply been the name of a historic team for 80 years? If anything it should not have been approved back in the day. But don't wait 80 years to all the sudden say "oh sh*t, this is offensive; it must be changed."

Seriously... no one ever thought twice about it ten years ago (or even just a few years ago). It was just another team name. Now that it's 2014 it has to be offensive. You'd think that a name like that would've been more offensive back in the day and the sensitivity to it that some Native Americans may have would fade throughout the years. But no... it's 2014. You have to be offended by this stuff or you're not politically correct.

It has also, undeniably, been a money grab for some Native Americans.

I understand why it could be offensive to some Native Americans. I get that. The thing that rubs me the wrong way is that seemingly EVERY analyst now claims it's an offensive term just because they feel forced into believing that regardless of what they actually believe.

It's like Dungy's comments about Michael Sam. He said nothing offensive, but he was absolutely trashed for it. Ironically, he is one of the people refusing to say "Redskins."

Bortles expected to play with the starters come end of the 1st qtr today against the Lions. Not to jinx anything, but this kid is playing well.

You get the sense from the coaching staff. They want him to learn the system for at least a year off the bench, but the way he's been playing shows he could just beat Henne for the starting position.

These are apparently the non-binding offers for the Bills:

Quote:
darren rovell ‏@darrenrovell
Bills offers, according to @Forbes: Terry Pegula ($890M), Bon Jovi/MLSE ($820M), Trump ($809M)
These are nowhere near the numbers that had previously been reported, as multiple reports said Pegula's offer was $1.3 billion and Al Michaels saying during the Hall of Fame game that Donald Trump told him his offer was $1 billion cash. It's also below the recent $935 million valuation Forbes placed on the Bills, and Forbes valuations are almost always well below what teams actually sell for.

As someone who is far away from the Jags market, from what I've seen, Bortles looks like the real deal. Doesn't seem so silly using a 3rd pick on him now. I like the practice of letting rookies sit the first year, but this kid looks ready.

What is the protocol here? Go with the highest bidder? Interview potential owners and choose which is the best fit?

It's hard to know for sure. The team is owned by a trust and it's not known what the trust says about the sale process. It could say that it flat out goes to the highest bidder, but it could say that the bidders should make some sort of real commitment to staying in Buffalo long-term. Pegula is definitely the front-runner here. In addition to offering the most money he's also the most likely to keep the team in Buffalo since he already owns the Buffalo Sabres. He's also very cash rich right now after recently selling some land for $1.75 billion.

I never viewed Trump as a real player in the Bills sale. He loves to get free publicity and this is just another example. Even if he was the high bidder there's no guarantee the owners would approve the sale. An owner needs 3/4 of the league's owners to approve a sale and I don't think it's out of the question that 9 owners would vote no, as some could still be mad about his lawsuit against the NFL in the 80s and others might not want an owner that's so public with his often controversial opinions.

If Pegula isn't our next owner, it would be a stunner. He has really deep pockets, and he is a passionate Bills fan. He WANTS the team very badly.

The NFLPA should really tell players at the rookie symposium to say nothing if they're pulled over by the cops, because Le'Veon Bell's statement made it a lot harder for him to beat the charges:

Quote:
According to the complaint, Bell told the officer at the scene: “I didn’t know you could get a DUI for being high. I smoked two hours ago. I’m not high anymore. I’m perfectly fine. Why would I be getting high if I had to make it to my game?”

When the officer asked what game he was referring to, Bell replied: “I have to be on a plane at 3 to be in Philadelphia. I play for Steelers.”

Bell initially told the officer there was no marijuana in the car, but when asked if they had smoked any, he replied: “It was about a minute ago,” before clarifying that it could have been within the previous two hours.

Apparently there will be no rookie QBs starting on week 1 this season for the 1st time in a long time. I predict Derek Carr will be the first one to start and by week 8, Bortles and Bridgewater will be starters as well.
