Continuity means nothing to the studios or the retailers. Seriously, the last few years have seemed completely random. It probably comes down to money and whatever packaging is cheapest at the time. Glad I just stuck with the regular 3d extended cuts for these movies. In the end I could care less about continuity; just like sweet as$ packages.

At least the Walmart DVD matches the style of the AUJ EE DVD. That's shitty that there won't be a steel book though.

You can import the steelbook from Germany, as it will also have English audio and subtitles.

Good to know. Anymore previews of your upcoming Smaug booklet? I'm very excited about it.

Not yet. Some of the stuff like the bonus materials (which are structured differently on DVD and BluRay) and the chapter names will be only available once the disc is released.

The other things like the introduction pages, is in the works.

This is one of the reasons why I resisted collecting steelbooks or digibooks (I do have a couple of digibooks, but really only of movies that only come in that packaging except for Lebowski). My OCD would cause a stroke if they all didn't match up.

I'm really excited for this. I don't care if it's bloated and I don't care that a relatively short book was spread into 3 movies. Any extra time spent in Middle Earth is good time spent to me. I love every extra second (with the exception of the Goblin King's need to sing in AUJ).

Something about Jackson's Middle Earth movies brings me so much joy. After seeing the extended LOTR DVD's back when they first came out, I never went back to the theatrical versions and I never will when the opportunity for extended versions are available.

On a side note, my wife and I just bought a house. The street is on a very steep hill and there are some very high hills on the property. We are currently in the early stages of trying to plan and then construct a hobbit hole!

The movie was 30 minutes longer than it needed to be (too much BSing in Laketown). Not sure if I could handle another 30 minutes!

Would the Rankin-Bass movies benefit from a hi-def format? I'd be all for that of course but only if they really benefitted from it.

I don't care if it's DVD quality I just hate having Dvd's that scratch up easily. I'd be all for it.
