He'd also make a good Sith as well imo. As for Luke turning to the darkside: Who knows, we'll just have to wait and see. |

I remember who the character was and I remember the scenes he was in. Like I said, I vaguely remember liking the character (or at least liking those scenes).
But when I say I don't remember anything specific about him I mean I couldn't pick him out of a lineup. I don't remember what he looked like, how he moved, how he sounded...nothing but very vague impressions. And every time I think I've snatched a bit of a memory it turns out I'm thinking of Inigo Montoya ![]() |

Gary Oldman was being touted as Grievous' voice in Sith before he declined due to it being a non-union show.

"I gotta say, as someone who is such a Star Wars fan, without question my favorite movies were the original films. And it's a funny thing because a lot of my friends have this debate there they say "Empire Strikes Back's clearly the better movie." I don't know, I have a soft spot in my heart for Star Wars, the original film. I love Empire as well, but there's something about Star Wars, the original." J.J. Abrams "I would say that [the video conveys] a feeling that we share very much," J.J. Abrams told The Times when they asked him about the "4 Rules to Make Star Wars Great Again" featured above. Well, I'm not much younger than the folks who grew up with the OT in theaters (born in '80, first saw the series at age 5). I love all six of them, and never understood the hate for the prequels or the idolization of the originals. They're all one huge story to me, no matter what order I see them in. My feeling about separating them all the time matches one of Tarkin's sentiments: "this bickering is pointless".
As for the above video, its just one demeaning diatribe against the prequels, for no other reason than that people didn't want Lucas to do anything different. I don't like everything in any of the films, but the best sagas always have a degree of variety. Too much similarity can makes things stale very quickly. I'd seen Episodes IV, V, and VI countless times by 1999, and had also read some of the books. I'd seen a few episodes of the "Droids" cartoon, and both of the "Ewok Adventure" films...but none of that gave me any expectation of what Anakin would or should be like as a youngster. All I knew was that at some point in his adult life, he'd wind up getting married, fathering twins, serving the Emperor, and fighting Obi-Wan over a lava pit. Everything else was one big question mark, and I was fine with it. The older films gave very little detail on who Anakin was; he was largely a plot device instead of a person until "Jedi" was made. Even after that, Kenobi's explanation to Luke was very vague...and again, that suited me just fine. However, it seems some people got an entirely different idea, from seeing the same exact films I did. They wanted Anakin to be a fearless badass from day one, never faltering until something horrible beyond recognition changed him. They wanted a hero, but forgot about or ignored the first word: "tragic". They didn't expect "Darth Vader the soulless machine" to begin as anything remotely innocent, especially a vulnerable slave boy. It took them completely by surprise, and went against all their unfounded assumptions. That, in my opinion, is why so many rage against those entries even now...and Lucas for making them. He dared to give the machine a soul. Last edited by Moviefan2k4; 09-03-2014 at 06:50 PM. |

Anakin had no soul. He was an aloof whiny moron that never did anything right. He was a poorly written character and due to that, Lucas effectively ruined the Darth Vader character forever. I wanted an Anakin I could root for and feel genuinely bad for after he fell to the dark side; instead I got some crying douchebag that I felt no connection to or any remorse for when he became Vader. It was just bad writing all around. So yeah, he was definitely tragic; tragically moronic and undeserving of sympathy.

Lucas basic story of Anakins fall was fine- it was the delivery that was the problem for many. And I wasn't bothered whether Anakin was a "badass" as you put it or not, I just wanted to feel for The character more than I could given the other problems Last edited by simonynwa; 09-03-2014 at 07:23 PM. |

He destroyed the Federation's control ship, defeated the cheating Sebulba in a podrace, distracted Zam Wessell long enough for her ship to crash, and rescued his mother from Tusken Raiders. He defeated Count Dooku fairly (before giving into Palpatine's schemes), saved Obi-Wan from the observation deck of the Invisible Hand, and risked his life for Padme more than once. The only "whining" he did was despairing over his slaughter of the Tuskens (which was righteous conviction), and briefly standing his ground when Padme initially refused his romantic advances. In short, he was a vulnerable human being with emotions and weaknesses, not a robot.
