No way. It's a single layered disc. I too have the freeze-up, but it didn't really bother me.

I thought that, but changing layer at ten minutes from the end seemed unlikely. That, and the fact that only image stops: audio continues just fine.

There is only one layer on a 25gb disc, so how could there be a layer change?

yeah of course. But I didn't check if the disc was 25 or 50gb. So while I was watching the movie, I thought it was a possibility for a moment.

I'm tempted to get Tokyo Fist, but after seeing a trailer, I think it might be too gruesome for me.

Heh, i'm sure it's a well made film, but I can't take that extreme asian violence.

Yeh just rock up to an Asian based studio thread and tell nobody in particular that you don't want to watch the films said studio releases.
AWESOME!

did understand it the same way.

@theprestige these days im not much into gore / slasher / torture porn anymore. for me its way easier to take violence like its shown in japanese movies.. its most of the time crazy and way over the top. with some easy visible make up or special effects..

on the other side i serisously have no idea how i ever could like movies like saw and hostel.

Man I'd really recommend checking out Bullet Ballet in that case. I watched it last night and I think it's the best Tsukamoto film out there. Obviously Tetsuo is untouchable, but this one is visceral in a different kind of way.

It's not ultra gruesome, it has some violence but it helps achieve some character development and is central to the understanding/overcoming of events that transpire at the very beginning.

Once again I take my hat off to Adam for the fantastic work he has done bringing Tsukamoto in HD. Along with what MoC are doing with Fritz Lang, it's the highlight of my collection.

Yeah, I didn't mean all Asian films at all. Tokyo Story is one of my favourite films. Which reminds me, theres a good few Yasujiro Ozu films that I want to blind buy. And i've always liked Battle Royale. Koreeda is somebody who I have admired for quite awhile too with my favourite of his being Still Walking. That film really spoke to me.

Mansinthe, yeah, theres definitely a difference between the way Japanese/Asian films in general depict ultra violence and the way westerners do. Going by the trailer to Tokyo Fist, the violence seems to be an essential aspect of the film in that it seems like the protagonist expresses himself through it. I haven't seen it, so i'm more or less just guessing here. But that seems to be common among a lot of the violent Asian cinema I have seen. Usually, it's there for symbolic purposes or theres often a nice build up to it, like with Takashi Miike's excellent Audition. If it wasn't for the stomach churning 3rd act, i'd probably have that film on blu ray.

You're right about the hostel and saw films, mate. Very lazy horror. Theres no sense that they want to engage viewers with thematic content, and that's the biggest problem I have with post 90's horror films. A lot of horror films nowadays are like the Jackass films in that they are basically just films of humiliation and cruelty with no sense of subversiveness and all the cliches you can muster. I can't understand what people get out of them.

You know what, I am going to give Bullet Ballet a go. It's only 7 quid on Amazon right now, so why not. I have said that I want to watch as many older catalogue titles as possible before I turn 30 next August, so yeah, i'm going to go for that.

Cheers mate.

Who's Adam btw?

Top stuff mate. I think you will really like it.

Adam is the man who is behind Third Window, he's a really great guy who posts in this Thread under the company's name.

Did you notice the image freeze at 1:19:57 too? That would be four of us.

Anyway... Yeah, Bullet Ballet is the less violent and more approachable Tsukamoto of those I've seen. I'd say you won't regret it, theprestige85!

Yep! Freeze was there for about 1 or 2 seconds during the fire scene.
