This shows how weird Star Wars fans can be. I have this and I think it is very interesting to watch but even the guy making it admits it is not the original version of the film. He is trying to remove as much of the extras as possible but he is still changing things to make it fit better with the rest of the films. He calls it "not the version you saw but the version you remember" and fans hold it up saying "see, this is all you had to do - just give it better picture quality". HE IS STILL MAKING CHANGES Meh, what can you do? Disney will release the original cuts some day and people will be happy until they put them into the blu-ray player and go "well, why didn't they fix this?"

At least it will still be better than Episode 7!

You haven't even seen any footage. There's no way you can know that...I love the OT as much as the next person, but what if Abrams pulls it off and matches it? You don't know yet until we've seen it.

Reading some EU stuff now, and I really do hope a lot of story and character elements from the Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy novels and the Dark Empire comics make into these films.

You betcha. The sheer emotional resonance of Jedi's final battles are still greater than that of Sith's, but as an overall film the prequel is by far the most satisfying out of the two IMO because it's not one giant third act like Jedi is.

Still, speaking of those two I love how Lucas once again mirrored one movie in the other. He switched the big space battle - as the insurgents (Rebels/Separatists) launch a final all-out assault at a key location of the establishment (Empire/Republic) - from the end to the beginning, and notice also the parallels with Luke and Anakin. Both are fighting a mortal enemy (Palpatine's current apprentice) in front of the Chancellor/Emperor, and both end up disabling their foe by cutting off their hand(s). But while Luke recovers himself and renounces violence in the face of the Emperor's goading, Anakin does not, decapitating his enemy at Palpatine's insistence.

I'm glad to see someone else actually gets what Lucas was trying to do with the prequels, at least in that respect. It seems like these days, hating the PT is more or less a red herring, akin to "not a real Scotsman" and such. Why do some consider anyone who views the prequels positively anything besides a fellow fan?

My personal favored version of the OT would be a combo of different elements from the unaltered, Special Editions, and Blu-Ray cuts. I'd want a similar schematic scene like in "Revisited", along with all the lightsabers done properly. Han would likely shoot first (if for no other reason than that's how Lucas originally filmed it), but I'd probably include Jabba's visit to Mos Eisley in some form. The whole "Jedi Rocks" sequence would be cut, but I'd keep the Sarlaac's beak and extra tentacles. All the holograms would be blue like the PT for continuity reasons, and the Death Star shockwaves would be kept too. I really like how Adywan included "Battle of the Heroes" in the Vader / Kenobi duel from "A New Hope", but I'd make its presence more subtle. Palpatine's hologram in "Empire" would be revamped again, keeping the more recent dialogue but providing a better visual match to "Jedi". I really like this attempt...

The changes I would want to remain would be:

- The lightsabers
- Ian McDiarmid in ESB
- CGI Yoda in TPM
- The CGI starship battles
- Jabba in ANH
- The extended ending of ROTJ
- TPM uncropped

'Revenge of the Sith' is not without its faults, but I think it's the 3rd best Star Wars movie to date.

If this movie is as good as that, I will be very happy.

Emperor: Revisited "Proper final version" - YouTube
Adywan has done mighty work and I cannot wait for Empire to come out in December.

True but given what a crappy job he did on the Trek films, the fact that is generally considered a second-rate Lucas and how poorly Lucas did on Episodes 1-3, I am not very optimistic. Plus it is Star Wars - no matter how good of a job he does, he will never top the original in any form. Empire is the better done film - better story, directed better, etc - but it still doesn't top the original in terms of the sheer excitement and wonder.

He did a poor job because he treated Star Trek like it was Star Wars without Jedi Knights.

I liked them when I was a teenager but when reading them now they just don't hold up: there is a bunch of silly stuff, another bunch of contradictory stuff and most of all is build with the pacing of a book, not a movie, better something completely different than an "adaptation" that has to cut 75% of the source material to be filmable.

Right, he can't even keep them straight in his mind. I know it is tough - Spock and Yoda both have the ears but one is small and green and the other is taller with green blood

For me, it is hard to think he will do a good job given the lack of respect he gave to Trek. It is fine to say he is a fan of Star Wars and will treat it right but if he didn't like/get Trek, why did he take the job and then do crappy work? Hard to respect someone who does that. He seems to be building his credibility on doing everything the opposite of what Lucas did in the last films - less cgi, bringing back the original actors, etc. So you get a chance to make a sequel to movies you love yet you are going to to the exact opposite as the guy who created those movies? I am seeing a lot of contraditions in his words and actions. Who knows, maybe he will surprise me.

If kids relate to Jar Jar, we are in deep trouble. Jar Jar could have been hilarious if he wasn't so damn annoying. It isn't that he was a fish out of water, he was a fish out of water with no clue at all. You are on some planet you have never been before, walking down a street with all types of creatures on it and you are not going to watch where you walk so you don't step in poo especially considering you are barefoot? Jar Jar makes the young kids laugh the same way shaking keys in front of them laugh - hardly funny. He could have been like CP0 was in the original films but Lucas dumbed him down like he did with the movies. There is the odd moment that is actually funny but not a lot of them.

A guy who has written for Talkbacker claims to have key info for Epsode VII...he's posting right and left in his Twitter feed:

https://twitter.com/GBRIELGRY

"SPOILERS begin now! SERIOUSLY! #LukeSkywalker has been imprisoned and has been corrupted by #TheDarkSide"

"Darth Vader is coming back to the forefront of the franchise. This is a key plot to the overall arc of the next trilogy."

"Luke Skywalker is conflicted, a tortured soul. Which will have repercussions throughout the next trilogy."

"#StarWarsEpisodeVII is going to be fun, but comparable to Empire Strikes Back in its dark tone. There's a serious third act spoiler that...

"#StarWarsEpisodeVII ... that is going to either divide the fanbase, or will be looked upon in history as a seriously ballsy move."

"Darth Plagueis, remember him? … Get acquainted again."

"Force ghost(s) play a significant role in moulding the antagonists of EP7 whom are NOT the 'inquisitors' by name."

Ha ha. Exactly.

I think Abrams is already better at 'Star Wars' than he is at 'Star Trek'.

A lot of that is sort of what I've been expecting...And would make sense moving forward with the trilogy. Wouldn't be surprised if it's true.
