Now that another Ivan Reitman production, Ghostbusters, has seen its second theatrical re-release in three years, what are the odds of Spacehunter getting a 3D theatrical re-release before Blu-ray 3D?

BTW Spacehunter did get a DVD release from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment on December 4, 2001.

I would be one happy camper if this did happen.

They put Krull out on blu but if they also have rights for Spacehunter, I highly doubt it will ever get a (decent) 3D release, let alone a 2D release anytime soon. It's a shame the 80's 3D flicks aren't getting any respect. Maybe if the golden age 3D blu's continue to sell well that might change.

If this ever hits Blu, it has to be in its original aspect ratio. The DVD used a cropped print (Columbia released the film in different aspect ratios, the 3-D version in 2.39 and the flat version in 1.85).

You're talking about the current DVD?
Because the 2001 DVD isn't cropped.
It's in the original aspect ratio (1.85:1)

The DVD case might say 1.85 is correct but it was filmed in 2.39 (3-D cameras at this time could only film 2.39). The flat prints were cropped (or used different camera angles, depending on whose story you believe) to 1.85. Many viewers of the film during its original release will also confirm the 3-D version was in 2.39.
