What rank is your Cryptarch? Mine is a level 4 and I have been reading some post that his level determines the decoded item status, This is all talk on the Bungie site but I have seen anything official. As for now I guess it is RNG that never goes in my favor.

I've had one legendary drop since the game launched. I was around level 10 and it wasn't usable until level 20 (not sure if they're all like that). It'll be decent once I get all the upgrades. Even if you get one that's not for your class, I believe you can vault it and use it for one of your other characters.

The loot drops are totally busted in this game. I get crap for high level strikes and raids. Yet I go back to Earth on hard lv 20 and get blue drops from random regular enemies. I even went into the bottom of the rotted ships in Russia that normally had lv ??? enemies. They were now lv 20 and one was an onyx knight. Took him down after about 15 minutes and 2 heavy weapon ammo replenishers. What did I get? 20 glimmer.

I also hate the boss battles. They're not hard. They're simply attrition. The music pieces are so short that they loop every 10 seconds and it seems ammo drops less frequently on hard and above. They're not fun or designed well at all. They're just a pain in the ass.

Also, why is it that I get blue encrypted engrams but when I unencrypt them I get green items?

I'm enjoying this game so far Finished the story, have a few more strikes to play & vanguard strikes, probably will replay some of the story on hard, then try the crucible (wasn't a fan of the crucible on the beta)...

Because cryptach is a troll. Get use to having legendary engrams turn into lower level stuff, or worse legendary gear for a different class.

Was almost tempted to buy that exotic engram from Xur, but I figured trollach would just turn it into an uncommon crap.

If you think it is bad now, wait until you have to find ascendant elements to rank up your legendary gear.

The loot drop isn't busted. Think hard about it... Legendary items are the equivalent of a Vanguard, Crucible, or a New Monarchy set piece item. Those high end set pieces take upwards of 40-55 (depending of level settings) matches just to earn enough point to buy one item of the faction's set piece or weapons.

Also, you are limited to 100 faction points for each faction per week. I believe each item of the said set pieces are 160 points each, thus making a full faction set taking upwards of 8 weeks to get.

With that in mind, think hard here… Why would Bungie make a Legendary easier to get? Doing so would make set pieces and most of the raids & strikes worthless. Also, a higher drop rate would greatly cut into the games replay value since everyone would be spec out in no time.



I would say the following are safe bets…

If you are under level 20, then don’t expect to see a legendary.

If you are above level 20 and get a Legendary, then count yourself as a lucky one since these are rare items.

If you want rare or light items (blue), then do strike missions. You are guaranteed at least one blue item per strike mission, and at level 22+ strikes you will see 2-4 per strike.


And the highest gear in the game are the Raid Sets & Raid Weapons. For these you will need to raids (Raids start on 9/16) and will require a lot of your time.

I am light lvl 23 and no legendaries for me not even for the wrong class.I got excited because I got a legendary engram in the crucible and thought that it was a garauntee legendary but nope it ended up being a green item

True enough, but that strike part is wrong, 2-4? I've done enough of them to say it's more like 0-2. Had enough strikes that drop nothing, to really not make it worth my time. My 2 pieces of legendary gear came from patrols and were dropped by the unlikeliest enemy, never a boss and never from a public event.

Speaking of public events, are these now broken also? I though you got something for a 3 gold star for your first public daily event? I logged on did a patrol, 3 gold star public event finished. Checked the tower after my patrol and nothing in the postmaster. Did some bounties on the moon, got another PE, 3 gold stars and again, nothing.

What does a lot mean? A difficult strike mission can consume a couple of hours with all the retries. More than that?



FWIW, at level 22, I have two legendary drops. One for another class, and luckily one a Scout rifle, that I tend to use most often.

Bungie is stating that raids will be 3-4 hours... and that is when the team (6 ppl are allowed in the raids) know what they are doing.

I am interested to see how Destiny's Raid drops work. Bungie took some serious MMO elements here to create these events and most MMO only drop 1 raid piece per raid for the entire group. That one item is then rolled on by the group to see who gets it.

I hope Destiny's Raids aren't as bad, but it wouldn't shock me see something like that since all other set pieces takes months to get.

Plus rounding up 5 buddies who have 3-5 hours for a raid each time. I believe the raids offer no matchmaking service.

i got the game on friday night. made it to level 16 with my hunter over the weekend. couldn't play with any of you guys since you're all way over my level. just started venus. found all the gold chests on earth and the moon, but most the gear was worse than what i already have. no purples yet.

if anyone that isn't at max level wants to help out, i'll be on tonight.
