So who here is actually a big fan of Halloween 5? I think this movie could have been one of the better ones if it had a decent director.

I think it would need a better director and a better script to have had a chance at being good. It also would have helped if they didn't rush it out just a year after the fourth film. Tina, the clown cops, Michael crying, Tina, the uneven tone, Tina, the crappy mask, the weird Myers house, the telepathic link, Tina, the overall crappy writing and directing, even for a slasher movie -- all adds up to a pretty bad movie. That said, I don't hate it. The only one I hate is Resurrection.

That's a dead on assessment. There were just too many poor decisions made. The only thing it's really got going for it is some decent atmosphere and a tension filled 3rd act.

I adore Halloween 5. I've only seen it a couple of times when renting it on VHS back in 1997. That dark '80s feeling can't be replicated.

I love every single Halloween film (H20 a little less), but when deciding what's my favorite sequel in the original series (1-8) my mind always wanders to 4 and 5.

While I can acknowledge that H20 is the "better movie", I enjoy watching 5 more just because I am not a fan of H20, which tries harder to be a Scream movie than a Halloween movie. I'm also a huge Thorn trilogy fan.

I love the Thorn trilogy. I think the reason my mind wanders to 4 and 5 more than 6 is the exclusion of Danielle Harris in the last of the trilogy. What makes 4 and 5 so wonderful is Danielle Harris playing her character (an innocent little girl, yet with so much maturity) combined with Donald Pleasence as Loomis and the perfect atmosphere.

Which I think all films but H20 gets right in that there's a wonderful and unique atmosphere to each film. H20 was too clean and stilted (soap-operaish). Damn, can you imagine H20 in the style of Halloween 5?

People talk about bumbling cops and screaming girls, but that brought a wild atmosphere to it that adds to its charm. It's the Halloween version of the Friday The 13th '80s-era slasher and its ****ing great, man. It has a perfect dark, candy-cornfield, middle-of-the-halloween-night gothic vibe.

I love the psychic link that brings a connection between the two characters (I don't usually go for that kind of stuff, but it works with the demonic Thorn/Halloween legend and the passing of the curse). I love that Jamie matures so much in that one year between the two films and is totally affected/damaged by the events of Halloween 4. I love that moment between them (echoed in the ending to H20 with Laurie).

And I absolutely love the H5 gothic mask of Michael Myers. I love that its a clean and fresh white in H4, which is a new start for the story, innocent and a blank-slate, just like Jamie's character. Then you have the mask in H5, stretched and abused, taking on a more human-like visage that's a bit angrier looking with more emotional qualities. After spending time in a watery shack for a year after going down a river and suffering a gauntlet of abuse combined with this evil entity that wears it, its as if the mask is physically affected by the face/force behind it. (As funny as it sounds, the mask makes Michael look more like an uncle, remaining blank but with a hint of a human personality.)

I believe that this will be the final major set that I'm missing from my Horror Collection, I've already got Child's Play, Nightmare on Elm St and just the other day Friday the 13th

Excellent post. I love the vibe of the Thorn trilogy so much more than H20, which feels generic. With those characters, it would have been so cool with more of a vibe like say Halloween 4.

I loved Halloween 4. As for Halloween 5 I'm not as big of a fan but it had its moments, plus how can you say no to Donald Pleasance constantly going around screaming at young children?

That's a pretty shit review. That's 2 reviews now that have not only had some fairly awful grammar, but also failed to talk about the stuff we actually want to know about. I'm still waiting on either ShockTilYouDrop or this site to post something.

What do you want to know about? My set isn't here yet but I am getting it from DVDTalk, so I can certainly try to focus on the things you guys want to know when I dig into the set.

Here's my guesses:
  • Quality of the new transfers
  • Whether or not the mono is corrected
  • Focus on The Producer's Cut
  • The quality and content of material on the bonus disc

What else?

'Tis the season. What he meant was that it's $62 Cdn -- converted to US currency this might be a sneeze less than $55.

The feature on the H20 disc that has a few scenes with Ottman's original score. Curious what scenes they are and if it's a full sound mix or isolated music track. I won't be getting my set for another month or so and I'm curious
