mine was perfect cause I got it before they put it in the plastic case, but as soon as I opened it. I threw slip cover out.

Watched it tonight and thought the transfer was fine. The scene with the school bus happens on an overcast dreary day and it didn't look quite as dark as the screenshots earlier in the thread. Great presentation in video and sound. Wow!!

Needless to say, this blu-ray is amazing across the board. The PQ and AQ are fantastic, and the bonus features are ample enough. Don't be fooled by those whose panicked weeks before release with those "screenshots." Make no mistake, what you saw in theaters is what you get on home release. It was never too dark in this film, and the audio just took my surround sound to new limits. Job well done, WB.

I just watched the film tonight on Blu. I saw it in theaters and loved the hell out of it, but thought it had a few tiny flaws. But this second viewing really made me forget those. I think now that my expectations were out of the way, I was able to enjoy this for what it is, a superbly crafted slow burn Godzilla. I think this is now one of the best films of the year.

I watched it at around 1am last night, and watched some of it this morning with a little bit of light in my room, and it looked phenomenal both times. Obviously a dark room is best, but have no fear about watching this during the day.

I was gonna wait, but I went and bought it at Walmart. Now, the only reason I got it from Walmart was because I was under the impression they had that exclusive cover, as the site suggests. Which looks much cooler than the regular cover art. But nah, they only had it in DVD format... so... I was boned. I had to opt for the regular edition... boo hoo.
Aaaaaaand it looks like that edition was taken down. Balls. Last edited by Kaiju; 09-18-2014 at 04:37 AM. |

i am not one to complain about pq, but the 2d version of this film is rather dark and it leaves shading on the screen when the monsters are fighting. the day scenes look great. i watched the special features and there is a huge difference between the scenes they showed there and the actual movie. i bought the 3d version of it but have yet to check that out. could it be that there are some disks with a "darker" file and one with the normal one? i mean, the fight scenes on the special features look just like they did at the theater (i remember cause i saw it 3 times hehe).

I made a brief review of the exclusive bonus feature on the Godzilla 2014 Target exclusive blu-ray.

![]() As for the picture darkness that is apparently plaguing this transfer (didn't find out until after I finished the film tonight), the transfer is fine. I discerned everything easily. I wasn't that mindful of the film as I was cellphoning here and there, but I never had trouble seeing the image. And then I saw the Bluray.com screenshoots--good Lord were they dark. I had trouble making out some of the screenshots. Just about! I'd forgotten I'd turned up the gain for the subwoofer a little higher for some dance music listening, and when the movie started, bass hit the floor right away. It was scary. Slightly OT: Kudos to Desplat for his score. He's one of my favorite composers, but never would've imagined him to be the one composing for a monster film. Just watched my copy. Not gonna lie, not as good on a smaller screen (42 inch plasma), but still a pretty cool monster movie. The one thing that needed to be tweaked was the generic, exposition ridden dialogue. Other than that, it's enjoyable.
And I hate to be that guy, but I definitely agree with the excessive darkness complaints. The scenes that take place at night are mostly too dark. |
