Default Moviestop Sucks!

How long have they been taking the blu ray's out of there cases? This is so stupid, I will never buy a blu ray from them again.

If they are going to do this they should discount them as used IMO

Probably always, since they're also likely only getting 1 copy in they use that one for shelf display, and don't open the rest.. Stardard Gamestop policy

i think there is a few threads about this already. it's the same company as gamestop and game stop does it with their games too. it is stupid they should sell it at a used price not a new. how do i know they didn't mix the two discs up?

The GameStops in my area don't do that stuff. Thats pretty unethical of them to do that. They can get sued for false advertising.

When my MovieStop started doing this, I stopped going there during lunch to browse. Now I go across the street to Best Buy for a pricemantch instead. Lousy idea, removing the discs like that (while trying to leave the security stickers in place).

They do it at the Kenwood mall in my area. I was shocked at first when I went to buy a new game is it wasn't sealed. They gave me a dumb look when I told them that I didn't want it because it wasn't sealed. I tried to explain to them that if its not sealed then I might as well buy it off Ebay used for $20 cheaper. It completely flew over their heads and couldn't grasp the concept of New vs Used.

This thread sucks!
Moviestop is owned by Gamestop who have been doing the same for games for years.
Every movie that I have purchased from Moviestop has been completely sealed and new but I also know that they do open one of each movie but have never had to buy that one.

No they can not, or they would have been.
"New" means "New" not unopened and nowhere is there anything that says unopened.
"New" and "Used" are exactly what you get.

I don't know about getting sued, but you're right, it is unethical and completely preposterous.

I went to the MovieStop by my house in Tampa, and I was going to purchase Reign of Fire. They said they had one left. The guy behind the counter went out onto the floor, grabbed the case, and I watched in utter disbelief as this guy 'pried' open the box on the side, where there was a little slit in the palstic wrap, and 'forced' the disc back in. He was actually going to sell this thing as new. I told him thanks, but no thanks.

He gave me their corporate HQ's number so I could call and complain, which I never did, but here it is if you anyone is interested...(770)590-1765.

Best way to handle it honestly.
Blogging about it, posting about it, and crying about it pointless.
Luckily it is not as bad as Gamestop, but it is no secret that it is a company policy.
Do not like it, shop elsewhere and most likely you will save money anyway.
Moviestop is for used movies.

I go to the one on Kirkman frequently for trades. I only do pre-orders with them though, and the BRs I get that way are never opened.

Mine opens their new ones too. I tried to explain to them that once they open it, take out the disc, it's not new anymore. I want my stuff sealed. They said they do it to cut down on theft. I said that's ridiculous and I wouldn't be buying from them anymore as far as new movies go. The point is they could do that with used movies and say they are new. I just don't trust them.

The value of a new car drops the second its driven off the lot. If the plastic on a movie is removed... its no longer "new" and should be considered "used". Regardless.

If you attempt to buy the last copy of a game in the store, they will take the case right off the shelf, and grab the disc from behind the counter and put it in the case and sell it as new.

I've seen this practice on numerous occasions.

Same here, a game missing from the case only seems to apply to the last copy in the store, the display copy.
