Either of the following:
  • Sony BDP-S7200
  • Sony BDP-S6200
Globally, both models share the same processor board, but differences are in styling and build quality. BDP-S7200 is the top-end model followed by the BDP-S6200. Unfortunately, both styling and build quality of the latter model suffer because of it's cheaper price.

Feature set differences:
  • North America
This is the oddball region as feature sets are identical for both models
  • EU and Japan
BDP-S6200 has a subset of the BDP-S7200 feature set.

Recommend that you download the user manuals for each model from Sony Support and visit your local shop to physically inspect these models prior to purchase. Verify that multi-region functionality is hardware-based rather than firmware-based. If the latter, a routine Sony firmware upgrade will disable the multi-region functionality.

Frankly, this is the worst way to find accurate specifications, as websites generally are riddled with errors.

Only way to ensure that the information you seek is accurate is via peer-reviewed documents such as a manufacturers user manual. This is time consuming, but it's the best way to receive accurate information. This is why I recommend downloading user manuals and reviewing the pages of system specification within.

For the UK BDP-S7200, the SBM description is on page 29 of the user manual in the "Settings and Adjustments" section:
"[SBM] (Super Bit Mapping)
[On]: Smooths the gradation of video
signals output from the HDMI OUT
jack.
[Off]: Select this when outputting
distorted video signals or unnatural
colour."

If you can't find that information in a mid-range model, then it means SBM isn't offered for that model. SBM is only offered on top-end models such as the BDP-S6200 and BDP-S7200. That's why I recommended those specific models.

What is inexpensive for you?

$300 will do the trick for you to get SBM.
It's as cheap as it's gonna get to get a Sony with the SBM feature.

This model and their ES model will have the SBM, the bdp-S7200 which I believe replaces the BDP-S790 does not even have it.

Sorry I did not even realize you were looking at Region free, you got your answer in the other thread...

you have to spend another 150$ to get a region free version.
