PS4 HDD upgrade

any of you using a 1.5 TB 7200 RPM hard drive for your PS4. If so which one? and is there a notable difference from the 5400 RPM

I've just put a 1TB SSHD (Seagate) and it's working great so far

Only $99
So I guess it's up to you (and your wallet obviously) to determine if the additional $300-$400 are worth it.

That's what I am using as well. Although I did have an issue, that I think I have also resolved, no major problems though.

Apparently, there is a Seagate external 2TB drive (model STBX2000401) that you can open up, remove the raw drive and install in the PS4. The console's 500GB drive can even be installed in the external enclosure as well. The drive is $90 on Amazon, although I've seen it drop to $85 periodically.

SSHD is only about 25GB SSD with the rest being a standard Platter based HDD, what we are discussing here is a straight SSD enormously faster, but yes as you said a major hit on your wallet.

I installed a 7200 RPM HGST 1TB drive and it works flawlessly. I'm pretty sure it helped with the ridiculous load times on MLB14 too.

I just put that one in. I have not loaded anything onto it except Destiny, yet. Destiny load times are ISP dependent.

Put MLB 14 on it and see how long it takes to load games

I'm using the Seagate 2TB STDR2000100 and have had no problems at all.

Not even 25GB

But it's not that clear cut, we are in many occasions just shaving a handful of seconds, sometimes we are even talking about fractions of a second.

Which is why (the OP originally talking about just a 7200RPM standard HDD) I wanted to talk options before jumping straight into a drive that costs more than the console itself

I would have to agree. The SSHD work great, and are cheap, they help with boot up time the most and SSD have shown to be only a few seconds faster even while loading games.

That's pretty much the same choice I ended up deciding between.

I went Hybrid 1TB, but I don't think you can really go wrong with either. Both have pros and cons... (my logic is that you would want to do some cleaning up and not keep oodles of unplayed stuff on there eventually anwyay)

Do any of you guys know if there is any limit on the size of the hard drive you can use with the ps4? With the PS3 I've read that you really can't use anything larger than 1TB. If and when I get around to upgrading my PS4 hard drive, I think I'll go nuts and try to put in a 4 or 5TB drive.

PS4 should hold a 2TB HDD with no issues, 3TB might be pushing it as idk if the OS can read over the 2.5TB limit before needing a different method to format.

I am reading users have put as much as a 6TB HDD in it so it might be possible

I think the cap limit at 2Tb (2.5 even?) is mostly a matter of what you can fit in a 2.5" drive right now.

There is a thread over at Gamefaqs where they made possible to have an external SATA drive on PS4, and they go up to 6TB formatted on PS4 (5.4Tb available), 3,4 and 5Tb being other options.
