I truly do not understand how a bunch of adults can get so excited about watching other people eat oranges.
I'm sure there's a website where you can pay to watch people eat oranges
Please keep any discoveries of such a site to yourselves

Given the amount of interest on this site... I'm thinking of starting one!

I'm not sure how many people I can get to agree to having their pictures taken while eating oranges in a garden to eventually go on such a website... so the website might just have pictures of me on it... but surely it will still do well!

EDIT: Thanks Rob!

~Alan<~~~~~~~~Who didn't get the "orange eating" reference... but does now!

Wasn't the orange eating already widely rumored?

Not that I mind, I don't think I could refuse either.

Well thanks to some other posts and Google I was able to figure it out ....... I would have to say yes that it was rumored earlier as a release. I remember it being mentioned "recently" in a few different places.......

Ok, I dont get why everyone is afraid to say that they film in question expected to be announced is The Godfather.

The Godfather being announced for bluray is NOT a secret. It has been rumored by plenty of people on the net and it has been well known that it was only a matter of time before Paramount announced it given the massive restoration that was done on it

See here about the actual restoration:
http://www.ascmag.com/magazine_dynam...cus/page1.php#

Bill Hunt also chimed in (mentioned last week that a release date of 9/23 was likely):
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/rumormill.html#061708

As for other news:

I am wondering if there will be something announced that people arent expecting.

So far after Day One of EMA I have not heard about anything remotely interesting. Hopefully the exciting stuff will pick up on Day Two.

I am not expecting much from the EMA, maybe some blanket commitments to catalog. (I.E. Godfather) The EMA is a dinosaur that has been trampled by the internet, and a shattered video industry.

It was originally intended to support the independent rental stores, by giving them a voice with the studios. Over the years as Best Buy, Amazon and Blockbuster ran most of the mom & pops out of business, it has become more a shmooze fest for the studios exec and the large retail people.

The studios are more likely going to focus on Comic-Con, which generates tons more buzz the the grand old video show. Especially since it hits their current target demographic right between the eyes.

Uh, I don't think it was a matter of "being afraid" to say it. People (Wicky) were just having a little fun by giving out the hints similar to what Penton has done in the past (this is his thread, after all). Many people didn't even get the hint.
What amazes me is that there's actually TWO titles hinted at and no one got the first one

To inquiring minds,
I finally received (from Kris D.) some specific information regarding apparent deficiencies with the Blu-ray movie, GoNY.
I will pass on the salient points of concern to the mouse house.

I don’t know where the HD master originated from but, I’m guessing Cinecitta Digital (Rome) or Technicolor.
It sounds to me like this is not a case of ‘current operator error’ but rather, an economic deceison made not produce a new HD master for this title, which can be expensive.

As I said roughly a year ago, “keep in mind the studios ….any of the studios aren’t forced to do new transfers” so, I would hope to see a proportionate amount of online accolades for Guns of Navarone when it debuts on Blu-ray, as compared to the amount of displeasure expressed for Gangs of New York……………if videophiles desire some studios to put out the dough for new HD masters on some older films.

Do you know how long it takes to get the flags sewn? The armor and swords made? With the airlines cutting flights and charging us as much for gas as the actual ticket it's put a damper on manpower to boot

Agreed.

How about accolades for a recent film on Blu-ray disc: Paramount's "The Spiderwick Chronicles"? A review mentioned that "Grain is noticeably absent" Blu-ray.com Review, but when I viewed it projected on a 110" screen @ 1080p native resoluion, the film grain was present and as much as I remember it in the movie theater.

Another review mentioned "There are some soft moments when computer-generated effects dominate the action, but this is to be expected." The Admiral's Corner Review, but when I viewed it the CG effects are sharper than I remember when viewing the film in the theater.

What was suprising to me is the emotions this movie captured on screen, an acknowledgment not given lightly which deserves recongnition and a special review, IMHO.

As long as the studios keep in mind that we're aren't forced to buy, or remain silent regarding, their sub-standard transfers either (and let's face it, if there's a poster child for a sub-standard transfer it is GoNY and Cold Mountain).

That said, I am looking forward to the Guns of Navarone, or any well-done BD release for that matter; and I will do my best to give credit where credit is due. Of course you should realize that people always complain louder than they compliment as that's human nature; but you rightly point out how it is in our best interest to give those kudos, and that is something I hope everyone takes to heart.
