This is one of my problems with the campaign. There is zero accountability for men. Just hold up a sign, get your picture retweeted and done.

I think He for She may have posted a blog posted about what male allies can do, but it's on the fringes.

Emma's heart is in the right place but it's really easy for this kind of campaign to fizzle out if it becomes just another Twitter hashtag.

I have major respect and love for Emma for this speech. This is not an easy topic to discuss in a way that shows understanding for both sexes but she definitely did that. She is clearly wise and has a big heart.

But... and I hate to go here, a problem of this movement has already dawned on me. She mentions things that guys go through. But ultimately HeForShe's focus is on women. Well men standing up for women. Now in itself that is a fine idea. Yet as her speech points out, we need to come together as one for the betterment of all of us. It should be both genders trying to help women, both genders trying to help men, all people learning to empathize and find ways to make our lives better for each and every one of us.

It shouldn't be HeForShe. It should be HeForShe-SheForHe-SheForShe-HeForHe. All of that but in a simpler way to say it of course.

Turning the focus even more on helping men would muddy the waters so much that it might as well not even mention feminism and be another "humanitarian" speech or whatever. Which is fine but not what she's aiming for, I think.

Well, part of this is a semantics exercise. As Emma Watson noted, the word "feminist" has for some odd reason been twisted into "man-hater" or "man-hating". Earlier this year, Shailene Woodley denied being a feminist because she loves men and doesn't hate them. Clearly, even the most well-meaning of people get basic definitions wrong.

As Snicket and Infernal King pointed out, though, HeForShe needs a clear agenda moving forward. Do they have a game plan? Let's hope so.

In my nervousness for this speech and in my moments of doubt, I told myself firmly, “If not me, who? If not now, when?” If you have similar doubts when opportunities are presented to you, I hope those words will be helpful. Because the reality is that if we do nothing, it will take seventy-five years, or for me to be nearly 100, before women can expect to be paid the same as men for the same work. 15.5 million girls will be married in the next 16 years as children. And at current rates, it won't be until 2086 before all rural African girls can have a secondary education.

Loved the speech, I truly feel Emma's voice will be one we can expect to be heard over the years to come regardless of the topic.
