Listen we arent debating over the validity of when Tim Burtons Batman was released, and what Nicholson was or wasnt nominated for. Were talking about how Heath Ledger may have done a hell of a job, but doesnt deserve an oscar and this isnt oscar material. If he wasnt dead no one would be saying he deserves an oscar. This comic book stuff isnt oscar material aside from makeup, special affects, costumes, editing, sound etc. The joker made heath ledger. Everyone loves the joker the jokers cool. The joker was cool before ledger did it. The joker was cool before nicholson did it. The joker was cool before hamill did it. These guys have all different interpretations in voice, makeup, some are cartoons, some are live action, some are comics, graphic novels. The mythology around the joker cant all be acredited to ledger. So please stop blowing this out of proportion. Its a summer blockbuster people will wait at midnight to see and line up for but heath ledger is nowhere near daniel day lewis, marlon brando, al pacino, etc.
